Book CoverSandy M’s review of Blame It on the Bet (Whiskey Sisters, Book 1) by L.E. Rico
Contemporary Romance published by Entangled: Bliss 11 Sep 17

The second author I want to share with you is L.E. (Lauren) Rico, who I discovered back in 2018. I thoroughly enjoyed her Whiskey Sisters series, wishing it had been more than just a trilogy. But she has enough books on the shelves that you should have enough to keep you busy – because I know you will enjoy any and all of them, no matter where you decide to begin. I just finished her Reverie trilogy (written under Lauren E. Rico), and that one will take you by surprise and keep you reading!.

Now on to my Blame It on the Bet review:

I began this series with the third book, which I enjoyed immensely. Thus, I was determined to go back and read the first two books as soon as I could. I like everything about this series. There’s not one thing I can nitpick about it. I was happy while reading and when I was finished, I wanted more. So I hope Ms. Rico keeps writing – there’s still two sisters who need their HEA, and I will be right there to go along on the ride with them.

First, though, we have Hennessy and Bryan. The Whiskey sisters are trying to keep the family pub afloat, when an arrogant real estate developer saunters in, making an offer to buy the place and turn it into a theater, of all things. Of course, this first meeting doesn’t go well, each underestimating the other and ending with a bet that ultimately will make them look at their lives a tad differently than they do upfront.

Bryan is the first to change. He finds he likes Mayhem, Minnesota – despite the fact he’s never lived in conditions this cold and snowy. He’s a California man through and through. But everything about the place and his newest enemy is getting under his skin and, thus, the change begins. His banter with Henny is fun, but as they get to know one another, emotions run deep.

I love that the whole town gets involved with these sisters, whether it’s a happy or sad situation. They pull together and you know things will turn out just fine. There’s terrific secondary characters, other than the sisters of course. Father Romance  – yeah, you have to read for yourself about him! – a future-telling pie baker, and a wonderfully happy and cranky imp named Jackson. It’s all bound together to make for a delightful read.

If you’re looking for something light and enchanting, the Whiskey sisters are just what you need.

Summary:

Welcome to Mayhem, Minnesota, where the cats wear sweaters, the local priest dispenses dating advice, and you can find your fortune in the bottom of a pie tin.

When her family’s pub is threatened with foreclosure, Hennessy O’Halloran, along with her three sisters, is determined to raise enough money to keep it out of the hands of the L.A. real-estate developer trying to raze it and replace it with a—god forbid!—multiplex theater.

Bryan Truitt always gets what he wants. And what he wants is the sweet corner property on Mayhem’s Main Street where O’Halloran’s Pub sits. But his “quick business” turns into more than he bargains for when he meets the feisty Hennessy. Next thing he knows, he’s betting her he can outlast Mayhem’s punishing winter in time to make the pub his—or he’ll gift it to her for free.

Hennessy knows better than to flirt with the enemy. But suddenly Bryan’s not sure which he wants more…the property or the woman who owns it.
