I was a little hesitant to pick up this book because the cover is a pretty bland “ABS! LOOK AT THE ABS!” cover and I just wasn’t in the mood. That would have been a shame, though, because this story is actually a warm hug in book form. It’s sweet and endearing as all get-out.

JT McKinney has reasons for keeping to himself. He doesn’t date hardly ever, but something about the friendly waitress at a local diner brings him out of his shell. He’s then floored when he learns that not only is she a single mother but that her almost-kindergartener happens to have the same partial leg amputation that he has. Even though Paige and her daughter Casey don’t really need the help, JT invites them to his lab/physical therapy clinic to take a look at Casey’s prosthesis. The more time they spend together, the less they can resist their mutual attraction.

I’m a complete fool for stories where people who are alone find their forever family. It’s my ultimate kryptonite. I enjoyed Paige and JT together and watching them build a relationship, but I freaking flat-out-loved Casey and JT bonding and slowly becoming father and daughter. They melted my cold, cold heart more than once. Kids in romance novels can be problematic. The reality of crazily-demanding, time-consuming, food-encrusted little dictators doesn’t always mesh well with fiction. Luckily, Ms. Connor does a good job and Casey is a pretty well-balanced romance-novel kiddo.

This book is downright heartwarming. I thoroughly enjoyed it and am now moving the previous book in the series up my reading queue.

Paige might not believe in happily ever afters, but JT wants more than anything to be her prince. They’ll both have to let go of the past if they want a future.
