Sandy M’s review of Hillbilly Rockstar (Blacktop Cowboys, Book 6) by Lorelei James
Contemporary Erotic Romance published by NAL 5 August 14

I absolutely love it when an author brings two very opposite people together, people who wouldn’t even look at each other twice if circumstances didn’t get in the way. Such is the case with Liberty Masterson and Devin McClain. He’s a super popular country singer on tour and she’s fresh out of the military now working security in all shapes and forms. Bodyguard is her next assignment, throwing her smack dab in the path of the man who draws women in droves. She shouldn’t have any problems keeping her mind on the job.

After one of his bus drivers is severely beaten, Devin’s agent and promo company demand he add security to the entourage he already traipses around the country with. He doesn’t feel he needs a bodyguard, but not to rock the boat he agrees to one extra person. However, he’s not quite sure the “woman” they’ve picked is really going to work out.

Liberty isn’t impressed with the opinionated Devin McClain, but the huge bonus she’s been offered to complete this assignment will make putting up with his attitude worth it. Being a personal assistant is the furthest thing from what Liberty knows how to do. But she needn’t have worried, everyone believes she’s much more than a PA to such a superstar.

While these two start out at odds, thinking the worst of the other, they very quickly learn their beliefs are in error. Attraction soon follows, and between the sheets these two have no problem whatsoever. It’s throughout their day that conflicts rear their ugly heads, but it’s poetry in motion watching them work through whatever it is with either lively and sexy banter or hard-won emotion. Liberty is a by-the-book woman, knowing any deviation can invite more trouble than any of them need. Devin wants things his way or reacts instinctively and has to learn to bend to hopefully guarantee they’ll all make it through this tour unscathed.

Of course, in the usual Lorelei James style, Devin and Liberty can’t get enough off one another and their lovemaking is raw and intense, but that makes the gentleness and sweetness even better when they come along. Just when they learn their differences are what make them so good together, betrayal comes into play when you least expect it. I enjoyed the give and take Devin and Liberty agree to, to make a life for themselves that they at first thought would never work. Once again, Ms. James is right on the money with the perfect balance of character, story, eroticism, and romance. Love is a given.

Summary:

Country music star Devin McClain understands there’s a downside to life in the public eye, but the laidback Wyoming cowboy has never imagined he’d attract crazed fans who would do anything to garner his attention. When veiled threats become real, he agrees to hire a discreet security detail. But Devin is shocked when that bodyguard is a hard-bodied woman. He’s even more stunned to be attracted to the steely-eyed stunner.

Former soldier Liberty Masterson’s return to civilian life has been fraught with challenges until she lands a job with a prestigious security firm. But when she agrees to provide personal protection during a cross-country tour, she doesn’t realize she has signed up to masquerade as the playboy star’s girlfriend. Though she’s more comfortable in combat boots than high heels, she has no choice but to appear to be the sexy groupie Devin prefers.

Living in close quarters causes the chemistry between them to ignite, and Devin realizes he wants to turn their charade of a romance into reality. Although Liberty surrenders to his every whim behind closed doors, she fears the sexy country star doesn’t see the real her; and Devin can’t help but worry when the tour ends that there might not be enough between them to build something that won’t fade away….
