Looking at it from a costume perspective, the clothes are more accurate than usual. But there would be no back pockets in them, ever. So she’d have no reason to grab back there, unless he was wearing his coat, and then she could go for the pocket in the coat tail…
And if I think she has no reason to grab back there, I definitely need to get out more.
But I don’t think she’s trying to steal his heart.
Dunno, I don’t see flab either. Of course, at first I thought the one in pants was a chick. So don’t ask me. I do think it willl make people look twice I just don’t know if that will turn into sales or not.
Do you know, the more I think about it, the more it grows on me. I mean, the grabbing-the-ass is kind of … blatant, but they are dressed. And it is eye-catching. And Lauren’s right — it’s different.
Hi,
Glad my cover generated such discussion! The book itself got a 4 star review from Romantic Times in its latest issue. Check out the next cover for the May 2008 release on Amazon. (Notorious Rake, Innocent Lady).

But as we all know a four star rating from Harriet Klausner & Co. is not a good rating. I’ve read Notorious Rake, Innocent Lady and found it wanting in some ways. What was this thing with the slingshot? She ribbed the skirt of her satin evening gown and made a slingshot? And then she was bare up to her knees? Didn’t she wear an underskirt? What was about the lining of the ballgown? How can one make a slinghshot with satin (non-elastic) fabric? What was this thing about the dead villain Oswalt? He got shot and no authorities inquired about it? This Oswalt had a small army of men to do as he pleased. But there was no one of them near enough to hear the shot? Only this Sam Brown who fired the shot? And how could this Sam Brown get away? He just says: “Oh, the Boss is dead. He got shot. Go, disperse the guests and don’t think about our dead Boss.” Do we really have to believe this? And three days later he travels to America because the hero has bought a passage for him. And another word to this Sam Brown. He had no problems in the past with all the things his Boss demanded. Now he’s worried about the innocent heroine? What about all those other girls that were used by Oswalt in the previous years? There are many logic errors in Notoriuos Rake, Innocent Lady. And by the way: it’s not erotic or sexy to mention some positions of the Kama Sutra here and there. If you want your romances to have sexy love scenes you should use sensual foreplays and not just some short nibbling here and teasing a bit there. If you use a plot and setting like this (one cannot count how often this combination was used before) you just have to make up for this.
I agree about Harriet is she reviewing for RT now? I hadn’t heard that. Funny you should bring up these books I think Sandy is currently or about to start this book to review and dying to read Notoriuos Rake, Innocent Lady. Sadly I don’t think we have gotten it for review yet. I have it cuz I broke down and bought it ;).
Sound like you didn’t enjoy it much? Can’t say the author will be around to answer your questions though – you do know this is a reader blog not her blog yes? I don’t have her email or I would pass on your questions.
Hope you check back after a review is posted. We are going to have a bunch of Harlequin Historical authors here in June though. So if you enjoy the line do pop in!
30 Days and 30 Knights with Harlequin Historical ๐ cuz I can’t evah do anything small it seems *g*
LOL, ya’ll are looking at it wrong. She’s a pickpocket. She’s just picked his pocket, the watch her gain, and she’s showing it to us as well as hiding it from him for the time being while copping a nice feel at the same time. And why can’t her other arm be around his neck? For heaven’s sake, I can’t believe how everyone just picks, picks, picks! LOL, nothin’ better to do??
And I have read the book and thoroughly enjoyed it. And I know I’ll still enjoy the others, no matter the “logic” that Danielle talks about. Reading is for enjoyment. Goodness gracious. I don’t think that hard when I read! My review will hopefully be done soon, as soon as I can get caught up with work!
You know, on one hand I think that’s a horrible cover, somewhere around Big Spankable Asses territory.
On the other…well, my other hand wants to grab some of that, too.
I am still not sure what I think other than it will catch the eye. But uh yeah… guess her hand picks that ass too.
Think it is historical accurate? ๐
Not sure. But if it is, I want to go back 200 years and get myself a pair of those boots.

Go Harleuqin Historical!
His butt is kind of flabby. And what is with the watch? And where is her other hand?
Big Spankable Asses done Regency style!
The other hand is trying to wind his clock.
Not seeing the flab.
His butt looks a little bubble-ish to me. A nice squeezable one.
But I don’t mind it when the man gets felt up for a change. ๐
*examines butt on 500% zoom to look for flab*
Meljean, maybe if you zoom in enough you will be able to find her other hand. LOL
After a long period of intense study, I have determined it is a muscle bubble, not flab ๐
Her hand is cupping something in the front.
Wow great cover! something different than all the abs and boobs out there.
So I would assume his butt is not the only thing bulging….

Funny, my first thought was, “Two girls? Get down Harlequin” but then I realized that was a guy. LOL

So I’m waffling.
