Enchanting the Lady by Kathryne Kennedy
I haven’t started this yet but plan to read it soon. I am never sure what to make of historical paranormals and more often than not they don’t work for me (I could rec two off the top of my head). And I had heard the genre wasn’t selling well but we seem to be seeing it more and more. What do you think?
In a world where magic ruled everything, Felicity Seymour couldn’t perform even the simplest spell. If she didn’t pass her testing, she’d lose her duchy… and any hope of marriage. But one man didn’t seem to mind her lack of dowry: a darkly delicious baronet who had managed to scare away the rest of London’s Society misses.
Sir Terence Blackwell knew the enchanting woman before him wasn’t entirely without magic. Not only could she completely disarm him with her gorgeous lavender eyes and frank candor, but his were-lion senses could smell a dark power on her – the same kind of relic-magic that had killed his brother. Was she using it herself, or was it being used against her?
One needed a husband, and the other needed answers. But only together could they find the strongest magic of all: true love.
I like the idea of historical paranormal better than the reality. Something gets given short shrift.
I’d give this one a whirl though. Let us know how it is.
Ooo, I had the privelege of reading this book already (a couple of months ago). I think Kathryne did a terrific job–her heroine is wonderful. The story has a great mix of humor, sensuality, and paranormal elements. It’s Kathryne’s first book at a NY house.
I had not heard that paranormal historical wasn’t selling well. (??) It seems to be working ok for me–knock on wood, I have another one coming out in April 🙂 Although I plan to return to “straight” hot historicals.
