Gwen’s review of Master of Dragons (Mageverse, Book Eight)Â by Angela Knight
Paranormal romance published 5 Jun 07 by Berkley Sensation
This paranormal is a continuation of Knight’s very fun, very readable Mageverse series. This alternate reality is peopled by King Arthur, Gwen (snort), the Knights of the Round Table, Merlin, dragons, fae, werewolves, and all kinds of lovely paranormal beings. The heroines are beautiful and capable. The heroes are gorgeous, stacked, and packing (both ways). The love scenes are always sensually erotic. And they’re always a blast to read.
Here’s the book blurb:
In her youth, fairy princess Nineva Morrow engaged in magic and evil forces rendered her an orphan – isolated and incapable of trusting in anyone’s survival. But after years of hiding on Earth, she attracts attention with her powers once more – from more knights than she can handle. Now, at the center f a rebellious Mageverse noble’s plot and helplessly dominated by a powerful, body-possessing spirit, Nineva’s only hope is the smoldering dragon knight Kel. This renegade of Arthur’s court has enough desire to burn down every door to her heart – if the surrounding forces of King Llyr would subside long enough to let him.The survival of the Mageverse hangs in a passionate balance of entitlement and pleasure, with destruction threatening to bring an entire magical universe to its knees…
Read a short story including Kel (no excerpt of this book available on the author’s site).
This is one of the best Mageverse books I’ve read so far. The best part of it is the relationship between Kel and Nineva. The character development is very satisfying and the relationship is gratifying. I liked that nearly all of the action takes place in the Mageverse – I get distracted when they come to “normal Earth” to fight the baddies.
The action scenes in this book are well done. There’s a terrific climactic battle where horrible things happen. Gods are involved, in addition to all of the strongest members of the Mageverse (Llyr, Diana, Arthur, etc.).Â
Nineva is one of the best heroines of Ms Knight’s whole series. She’s flawed, lovable, normal at the beginning. From that point on she’s still flawed, lovable, and relatively normal (as a Fairy Princess can be), but she’s also noble, self-sacrificing, and determined. She alone is worth the read. But, ooo la la, we also have KEL – the Dragon Knight. Oh man oh man oh man. Ms Knight knows how to build a hero, doesn’t she? I loved Kel in Gawain’s book (Master of Swords) – he was better than the main characters. Kel is sexy, believably noble and very earthy (forked tongue – s’all I’m saying). Great relationship.
This is a very fun book. I sucked it down in less that two days, even with an 8 year old having summer boredom issues. I highly recommend it.
Grade: B+
I love this series and i really enjoyed this book, it was great.
If anyone has ever written a paranormal series with more original world-building, point it out to me, okay? Because I don’t think it’s possible to create a more unique world than AK’s Mageverse- The Arthurian Legends are vampires, Merlin is an alien!
I agree that Kel was the most memorable part of Gwain and Lark’s story. I’m so glad AK gave him a heroine worthy of him! But that unfortunate cover poser? Soooo not worthy of Kel! 😮
