Sandy M’s review of Blitz (Treasure State Wildcats, Book 2) by Devney Perry
Contemporary Romance published by Devney Perry 7 Mar 24

Another emotionally charged story from Devney Perry. She’s become quite expert at giving characters we love nearly impossible situations to overcome, and this book is no exception. A coach and a student find themselves caught up in a firestorm of lust and love, and try as they might to follow the rules of Treasure State University, they fall deeper and deeper into trouble that will eventually lead them to the best part of their lives.

Toren and Jennsyn meet at his July 4th party, each thinking the other is there for fun and drinks along with everyone else. They are instantly attracted, and one thing leads to another and a night of passion neither of them can forget after they part ways. He’s a coach for the university football team and she’s the star volleyball player, who just transferred from California to Montana after surviving a scandal that has led her to finally follow her own course. But once they find out their night together is forbidden by the rules, each probably losing their status if their secret is revealed, they do their best to stay away from each other.

But Jennsyn lives right next door. They bump into each other on campus. Going to the other’s games just to get a glimpse of them in action, and so much more as fate and emotions work against them is just the beginning of the end. In between all that stress, they each have personal issues that make life that much more difficult. Toren helps his widowed aunt and her sons as much as he can when it comes to the family ranch. Jennsyn and her mother, who is a volleyball Olympian, can’t see eye to eye when it comes to Jennsyn’s future. Keeping their secret becomes more and more difficult as they find peace and romance in each other’s arms.

This story runs along the same timeline as that of Coach, the first book in the series. While Blitz stands on its own, I would recommend reading Coach first just for consistency’s sake, even though Ms. Perry does a great job of filling the reader in about Ford’s and Millie’s relationship so you don’t get lost. All of these Wildcats are charming and intriguing, so you shouldn’t wait too long to meet them.

Grade: A

Summary:

A coach. A student. The rules were concrete. We broke them anyway.

The night I met Toren Greely was the night I learned how to lie. He was a Treasure State football coach. I was the star of the volleyball team. Coaches and students were forbidden. My future was on the line, so I told myself it was only one night.

That was the first lie. They got easier to tell after that. The lines blurred. The boundaries shifted. Our relationship became a game of its own.

A chaste smile. A knowing glance. A veiled touch or a hushed kiss. We hid in plain sight. We were invincible. Or so we thought. Neither of us saw the blitz coming until it was too late.

Game over. The night I left Toren Greely was the night I learned how to lose.
