Lessons from a One-Night Stand: The Baileys, Book 1Sandy M’s review of Lessons from a One-Night Stand (The Baileys, Book 1) by Piper Rayne
Contemporary Romance Audiobook published by Audible 11 Mar 19

At first I was pretty irritated that my car CD player suddenly stopping working. I listen to audiobooks constantly in the car. So I did the next best thing – plugged in my iPhone and pulled up some audiobooks to choose from. I came across this book and thought, “Why not?” I’ve never read Piper Rayne, and I’m always looking for new authors to read. After the first few pages, I was completely invested in this crazy family and look forward to getting into all their stories in the future.

This book is definitely a winner (and at this point I’m assuming every book in the Baileys series is also), and I’m a brand-new fan of Ms. Rayne. I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of this story. Austin and Holly hook up one night, never expecting to see the other again. Lo and behold, as Austin, a baseball coach at the local high school, attempts to introduce the new temporary principal at the school, it’s Holly who walks in to greet the student body. And so begins the fun as these two try to keep their mad on once that scene is over.

They can’t quite do that, though. There’s attraction and chemistry simmering between them every time they come together, enough so that others notice it too. As Holly discovers more and more about Austin and his family, the more she falls for this charismatic coach. Holly has her secrets, and it’s not long before she’s spilling all to Austin. I so like how they support one another as each of their revelations come about.

The Bailey siblings are a handful, that’s for sure. Austin has put in his time raising his younger brothers and sisters, and now it’s his turn for his dream. But the fly in that ointment is Holly. I cheered his grandmother on every time she imparts her wisdom to him. I’m glad he finally learns to listen to her! Holly has her own family issues, and her mother is as much of a hoot as Austin’s grandma is.

What also makes this audio extra special are the narrators. They do an excellent job bringing all the characters to life, but especially Austin and Holly.

If you like family interspersed with your romance, this is a story/series you’ll love too. I’m looking forward to revisiting the Baileys as soon as I can.

Grade: A

Summary:

If you’re a guy like me, and you find yourself having banged your sexy new boss – the school principal – in the back of your Jeep one drunken night, here’s a few takeaways based on my experience….

Lesson One: Always get her full name.

Lesson Two: Consider asking what she does for a living.

Lesson Three: Find out why she’s moved to town. Get details. Details are crucial.

Lesson Four: Don’t alter her bio in front of an auditorium of high school students unless you know she has a sense of humor for that sort of thing.

Lesson Five: If you ignore Lesson Four, apologize instead of flirt when you’re sent to the principal’s office.

Lesson Six: Never sleep with her again.

Lesson Seven: Pay attention to this one – it’s the most important of them all. Don’t fall for your one-night stand.
