Sandy M’s review of In the Likely Event by Rebecca Yarros
Contemporary Romance published by Montlake 1 Aug 23

Sit back and get ready for an emotional roller coaster of a ride when we meet Nate and Izzy, who have just met each other, in the most unlikely of circumstances.

This is Nate’s first flight, on his way to join the military. Izzy hates flying and has a head full of facts about air travel she can spew at the drop of a hat. This is one of those facts that bring them together now and then again and again over the next decade before their time is right.

Not long after takeoff, their plane crashes – one of those one in a few million incidences that no one who isn’t involved can understand. With those first few minutes before tragedy strikes, you know, as well as they do, they are meant to meet. But then Izzy is rushed away in an ambulance and Nate is whisked away from the hospital through orders from the top.

That was 2011, and they meet here and there throughout the years, but with secrets and fears, their lives never seem to intersect for a life together. Now in 2021, with Nate still in the military and Izzy working in the political arena, their dance in each other’s lives finally comes to a head, and it seems this may be the last time for them to have the life they’ve both wanted all these years. However, there are still secrets and fears, with some stubbornness thrown in, that put them on an outlying path once more.

Rebecca Yaros has outdone herself once again with wonderfully believable and sympathetic characters in circumstances most people probably wouldn’t survive. Every emotion under the sun will beat at you as you cheer for this couple to finally make it. Another winner that I highly recommend for every romance reader.

Grade: A+

Summary:

When Izzy Astor gets on a plane to go home, she isn’t expecting much. It’s the usual holiday travel experience: busy, crowded, stressful.

Then she spots her seatmate, who is anything but ordinary. Nate Phelan sports dark hair, blue eyes, and a deliciously rugged charm that Izzy can’t resist. Their connection is undeniable. Izzy never believed in destiny before, but she does now.

Just ninety seconds after takeoff, their plane goes down in the Missouri River.

Their lives change. They change. Nate goes on to a career in the military while Izzy finds her way into politics. Despite a few chance encounters over the years, the timing never feels right.

Then comes a high-stakes reunion in Afghanistan, where Nate is tasked with protecting Izzy’s life.

He’ll do anything to keep her safe. And everything to win her heart.
