Kaitlyn‘s review of Gild (Plated Prisoner, Book 1) by Raven Kennedy
Paranormal Romance published by Raven Kennedy 16 Oct 20

This is a very fast-paced read and easy to devour. It took me only four hours to fly through this story, and when a book is so easy to read, it quickly becomes a favorite of mine. A King Midas retelling with so many twists was an incredible book idea.

One of the things I like most about this is the MC’s inner dialogue. It’s witty and entertaining, one of the contributors to how fun this is.

That being said, the Stockholm Syndrome is strong in this book. Auren, while witty, also has a very rough go of it and appears weak at times, but that’s to be expected after living in a cage so long. I’m extremely excited to see how her character will develop moving forward.

This is well written and the characters very interesting. There are ones to love and sympathize with and ones to absolutely loathe (cough cough Midas). I can’t wait to see where the story goes. I’m confident this is going to become one of my favorite fantasy series.

Grade: A

Summary:

The fae abandoned this world to us. And the ones with power rule.

Gold.

Gold floors, gold walls, gold furniture, gold clothes. In Highbell, in the castle built into the frozen mountains, everything is made of gold.

Even me.

King Midas rescued me. Dug me out of the slums and placed me on a pedestal. I’m called his precious. His favored. I’m the woman he Gold-Touched to show everyone that I belong to him. To show how powerful he is. He gave me protection, and I gave him my heart. And even though I don’t leave the confines of the palace, I’m safe.

Until war comes to the kingdom and a deal is struck.

Suddenly, my trust is broken. My love is challenged, and I realize that everything I thought I knew about Midas might be wrong.

Because these bars I’m kept in, no matter how gilded, are still just a cage.

But the monsters on the other side might make me wish I’d never left.
