Sandy M’s review of The Difference Between Somehow and Someway (Difference Trilogy, Book 2) by Aly Martinez
Contemporary Romance published by Aly Martinez 24 Feb 22

We continue the tragic but fated lives of Bowen and Remi, as well as the emotional, gut-wrenching twists and turns readers learned in the first book Ms. Martinez is a master at. So much happens in this book, it’s amazing I’m still standing after all that is revealed. Again, all things you never see coming.

Just when things seem to be going along so happily for our featured couple, their world comes crashing down once again. Remi learns the truth about the last year of her life, feels betrayed by all who love her, and can’t quite find herself in the midst of it all. Evil rears its ugly head one more time, making hostages out of everyone, stymying their lives just as before when Remi was in danger. Bowen is again the one who must keep it together to get to her in time, but it takes everything he’s got to do so. Unfortunately, that evil is so very close to home that it looks as though no one will come out unscathed on the other side.

Not everything is danger and evil, however. The banter between Bowen and Remi also continues, throwing such fun the reader’s way. As I said in my review of The Difference Between Somebody and Someone, these two are absolutely perfect for each other. Their joy and love in each other are right up there with any romance couple you’ve probably ever read. That’s why it’s just totally heart-wrenching when it all falls apart again. The hits just keep on coming, and you begin to think these two will never catch a break when it comes that happily ever after.

My only little nitpick is Remi’s need to find herself. For me, it’s taken a little too far, but that’s not to say I don’t understand her reasons for it. But, Remi, it’s Bowen! He’s now one of my all-time favorite heroes, he can do no wrong, and I just want her to stay in his arms, wrapped in his love. Sigh. But I know that doesn’t keep the story moving forward and keep the so-unexpected revelations hitting you left and right. So, despite my tad bit of irritation with Remi, this is another stellar book from Ms. Martinez.

My review of the last book in the trilogy will be here for you in a couple of days!

Grade: A

Summary:

The world gave me everything.

After surviving a plane crash, I was lucky to be alive. It was a harsh truth, but one that changed my perspective on how fragile life could be.

So when a fellow survivor caught my eye, I owed it to myself to take a chance and follow my heart.

Bowen Michaels was guarded and broody, but I saw through his well-formed armor. Much like me, he was broken and lost, but together we found our way through the darkness.

For a brief moment, wrapped in his arms, it felt like maybe he was right about fate and we’d been destined to find each other all along.

But when buried secrets of the past erupt, igniting us both, it was hard to believe we’d been fated for anything other than failure.

The world gave me everything.
And then it took it all away.
