Sandy M’s review of A Partridge and a Pregnancy (Holiday Brothers) by Willa Nash
Contemporary Holiday Romance novella published by Devney Perry LLC 4 Nov 21

Willa Nash, aka Devney Perry, has become a favorite of mine over the last few years. Her Nash pseudonym is newer, but her storytelling is still fresh, her characters are charming, and her storylines are humorous, romantic, suspenseful, and fun. The Holiday Brothers series is no exception. These are lighter stories for the Christmas season and they hit the spot for me when a couple of other seasonal romances just didn’t work, no matter how I wanted them to.

You can read these books in any order. The timelines are interwoven so you see the total 360 degrees for these three couples. I’m reviewing each book this week in the order I read them.

Eva and Tobias have a history. Together while in high school and college, everyone thought they’d have happily ever after – especially Tobias. He had the ring years ago to prove it. But then Eva wasn’t willing give up her dream, called it quits between them, and headed for New York. She’s been living that dream ever since. Now she’s temporarily back in Montana, runs into Tobias, and they share one night together. But her time in Bozeman is coming to an end soon, and her news of impending motherhood has to be shared with Tobias.

Tobias is caught off guard by Eva’s news, but he’s thrilled to be a father. What he’s not expecting is for Eva to once again choose her career over him and being okay with having their baby in a foreign country. He wants to raise the child in Montana, but Eva puts her foot down on that idea. Liking this couple would have been more difficult if they didn’t share a past and if they didn’t still love each other. Their problem is communication. Oh, yes, they do say things to try to figure this dilemma out, but they don’t talk until nearly too late. Thus, I have an issue with Eva more than Tobias. She’s too stubborn despite her love for him. He’s the one who it seems will be the one giving everything up again for her decisions.

But, even if it’s the very last minute, Eva does give some ground, as does Tobias, and their family will finally be number one in their lives. I enjoyed the Holiday family a lot, especially the interaction between the brothers. Eva has some re-thinking to do to make sure she doesn’t totally end up like her mother. All in all, even with the angst and indecision, a good holiday romance with all the feels and sentiments of the season.

Grade: A

Summary:

There are a lot of places I’d rather spend Christmas Eve morning than on a cold, snowy sidewalk outside someone else’s home. I’d kill to be sitting beside a fireplace, drinking cocoa, wearing flannel pajamas and reading a book.

Instead, I’m here, standing in front of my one-night stand’s house, working up the courage to ring the doorbell and tell him I’m pregnant.

I hate that term—one-night stand. It sounds so cheap and sleezy. Tobias Holiday is neither of those things. He’s handsome and caring. Witty and charismatic. And once, a long time ago, he was mine.

Our one-night reunion was only supposed to be a hookup. A fling with an old lover. A parting farewell before I moved to London and put my feelings for him an ocean away. How exactly am I supposed to explain that to Tobias that I’m having a baby? His baby? Maybe I could sing it. He always loved the silly songs I made up in the shower.

Three French hens, two turtle doves.

And a partridge and a pregnancy.
