Book CoverSandy M’s review of Finn (Anderson Billionaires, Book 1) by Melody Anne
Contemporary Romance published by Montlake Romance 8 Oct 19

I’ve not read Melody Anne before, so when I saw this book is the first in a spin-off series, I decided to give her a try. This new series is about the unknown nephews of the Anderson patriarch – they’ve just been discovered by Joseph and he has wrangled plans to bring the men into the family, kicking and screaming if necessary.

Finn is the oldest of the brothers, and he’s the most skeptical when it comes to Joseph’s motives wanting the siblings to be part of the Andersons. Even not having read the main series, I get that this family, especially Joseph, is well known far and wide – not only for their wealth but for their humanity and charity. Because Finn’s father was an asshole, he has issues when it comes to father figures; so he’s keeping his reserve about Joseph close to the vest. In the meantime, he and his brothers are starting work on a veterans’ center that Joseph wants built and wants them in charge of from the ground floor up. Then Finn gets thrown on his ass, literally, by the town doc, who is former military, and he’s instantly in love.

But Brooke wants nothing to do with men and love. And she keeps that attitude going for the first twenty-nine chapters of the book, so you can guess I have a difficult time warming up to her. In fact, I never really do, even after finishing Chapter 30 when she begins to thaw just a bit. It’s just too much too late, mostly because her reasons for shunning relationships isn’t the best, as far as I’m concerned. For me, she doesn’t deserve Finn. Yes, I know she’ll come around, is on the way there, but when you’re too fed up with a character for so much time, it’s hard to let that go.

I do like the brothers’ relationships with each other. You feel the love among them and they work together well, especially because they’ve each made something of themselves after being raised by their wonderful mother. I also do like Joseph, as full of life and overwhelming as he is.  I also like that Finn is the one to never give up on Brooke, the first to admit his feelings and say the L-word. His work is an uphill battle convincing her he’s the one and only in her life, so he gets extra admiration for that.

However, I’m not sure that’s enough to keep me reading the series. I’ll just have to wait to see who’s up next and if their story is intriguing enough for me to try.

Grade: DNF

Summary:

Finn Anderson is a loyal military veteran who has no desire to live a life of luxury and ease, but sometimes a person doesn’t get a choice. His life is flipped upside down when he and his four brothers learn they’re long-lost relatives of the absurdly famous and wealthy Joseph Anderson. The eccentric but generous billionaire puts the brothers to work building a new veterans center, and that’s not all: Joseph won’t stop until each nephew finds love.

Finn has never expected or wanted an easy life, and he struggles with his early retirement from the elite SEAL team. But when a very confident Brooke Garrison literally sweeps him off his feet during a self-defense class he’s teaching, he thinks less about his past and more about a brand-new future.

If Finn knows anything for certain, it’s that he can’t let this woman get away. Though Brooke is tough and compassionate, the loss of her brother has left her vulnerable. She isn’t sure she can risk loving and losing another person in her life, including a very determined ex-SEAL. Can the two of them look beyond their past wounds and embrace what they’re feeling?
