Veena’s review All Roads Lead to You (Stay, Book 3) by Jennifer Probst
Contemporary Romance published by Montlake Romance 23 Jul 19
Ms. Probst has become a go-to favorite author for me. I love her heartfelt contemporary romance stories with their right mix of humor and romance. With the animal rescue element and the wonderful animal characters added to the human characters, this one will steal your heart – especially the abandoned, abused baby goat. Harper Bishop has many a pang when she sees the love blossoming between her siblings and their significant others, but she’s happy to be single and devote her time and money to running her animal rescue farm. She has even more to look forward to with her rescue of a badly abused racehorse, which she feels could be a winner on the track, except she has no idea how to train a racehorse. Along comes Aidan O’ Connor with his own bruised heart, looking for a racehorse that he can take to the Triple Crown. It might look for a read- made recipe for romance and partnership, but, let me tell you, this is a slow one coming to boil.
Both Harper and Aidan have their own baggage, and it’s not easy given the abuse that Harper’s been subjected to by her peers, starting all the way back in school. Aidan has had a hard life, but his last experience walking away from a winning racehorse has definitely left him with scars. He has a lot to prove, and certainly keeping his history under the covers might seem like a good idea until the cover is fully blown off.
Can these two damaged people find a way to trust and build a relationship? As they work with the horse and teach it to become a winner, their own story flowers, but it’s just a short-term romance, right? A beautiful love story, one of my favorites from the author.
Summary:
Happily single, Harper Bishop trusts in only one passion—her rescue farm and healing her thoroughbred, Phoenix. Her dream is to lead him to the Triple Crown. But how unreachable is it without experience or help? A handsome new guest at her family’s B&B has what it takes to make it come true. And with his irresistible brogue, warm smile, and soothing touch, he’s a major distraction.
After a bitter betrayal, horse trainer Aidan O’Connor has fled Ireland for a vacation in New York’s Hudson Valley. When he sees the horse with the fighting spirit, he’s inspired with a new goal: to train Phoenix to win. He’s also facing an unexpected new challenge: his feelings for Harper.
How can she dare to open her heart to a man who’ll be there only long enough to break it?
So Harper and Aidan agree: try to keep it professional, and focus only on Phoenix and the finish line. But along the way, they could also learn a few lessons in love, trust, and taking chances. And, as painful as it promises to be, saying goodbye.
