Book CoverVeena’s review of Driftwood Bay (Hope Harbor, Book 5) by Irene Hannon
Contemporary Romance published by Revell 02 Apr 19

This has been an adventuresome month for me. I’ve come out of my rut by experimenting with new authors and new voices. Ms. Hannon and Driftwood Bay have been a very pleasant surprise in my journey, and I hope you will find the same if you pick this book up and read it. Clearly this is part of a series, but I had no trouble at all jumping into the story without reading the earlier books in the series.

Two lost and lonely people end up as next door neighbors in the town of Driftwood Bay in Oregon. The town and its friendly people offer healing and support in an unprecedented way. Things are livened up with the addition of two young girls dealing with a world of unbearable loss, along with a rambunctious puppy. Add into this mix a transplanted Syrian family who is a town project, and it all makes wonderful ingredients for a beautiful and touching love story.

Charley is a Mexican transplant, owner of a taco truck and who seems to be like this spiritual guide for the town, finding troublesome spirits and sending them in the right direction. Church and religion seem to play a big role and I totally enjoyed the two priests from the local churches and their banter as they go about doing what they can to help the people of the town.

For me it all started with the beautiful cover that first hooked me and then fortunately the story totally lived up to it. A classic love story in the best way.

Grade: A

Summary:

After tragedy upends her world, Jeannette Mason retreats to the tiny Oregon seaside town of Hope Harbor to create a new life. Vowing to avoid emotional attachments, she focuses on running her lavender farm and tea-room–until a new neighbor with a destructive dog and a forlorn little girl invades her turf. But she needn’t worry. Dr. Logan West is too busy coping with an unexpected family, a radical lifestyle change, and an unruly pup to have any interest in his aloof and disagreeable neighbor.

Yet when both Jeanette and Logan find themselves pulled into the life of a tattered Christian family fleeing persecution in war-torn Syria, might they discover that love sometimes comes calling when it’s least expected?
