Book CoverDinca’s review of Black Hills Baby (Black Hills Rendezvous, Book 1) by Debra Salonen
Contemporary Romance published by Loner Llama Press 29 Jan 16

I never get tired of reading Debra Salonen. I find her an excellent storyteller with well-developed characters. Give her time and she will marry off everyone in the Blacks Hills of Montana.

Hollywood heartthrob Cooper Lindstrom’s mother, who is also his manager, passes away and Cooper finds his finances in a mess. He did not realize his mother was gambling his money away. Not until her disgruntled bookie came looking for more. Cooper runs across an ad for a sperm donor in Sentinel Pass, Montana. Not only will he be out of reach for a while, but it may also solve some of his financial issues.

Libby McGannon, the postmaster of Sentinel Pass, feels the biological clock ticking. Not willing to wait any longer for Mr. Right to come along, she takes matters into her own hands. Without cash to pay a sperm bank, she advertises for a donor with her share of the silver mine as payment.

Coop and Libby have no intention of falling for each other. And, in the beginning, I didn’t want them to. I loved Libby right off the bat, but I did not care much for Coop at all. I thought he was a wimp with a controlling mother. I was thinking, “Debra Salonen, what the hell?” Then Ms. Salonen brings out his true character with his backstory and I enjoyed her writing even more.

In this book, you will find complicated characters that are well developed to a point where you are cheering and/or steaming mad with them as well.  The secondary characters are also presented in detail and I am sure we will learn more about them in the books that follow. Grab some hot cocoa, a throw quilt, and a squishy pillow to get ready to enjoy this delightful read.

Summary:

When Hollywood heart-throb Cooper Lindstrom needs money to get his late mother’s homicidal bookie off his back, he jumps at the lifeline Black Hills postmaster Libby McGannon tosses his way. In Cooper’s mind, their arrangement is simple: his sperm in trade for a share in her family’s gold mine. But the real pay off is her story–the one he plans to turn into a hit sitcom that will push him back on top.
The hit show Coop saw coming.
Love? Completely blindsided him.
And the baby? Who could have guessed Cooper wanted to be a father? Too bad Libby–the woman he’s fallen hard for–might never forgive him for turning her life into a joke for worldwide consumption. Not to mention the changes he’s brought to the small Black Hills community of Sentinel Pass, where happily-ever-after isn’t left to chance.
