Book CoverSandy M’s review of Bark! The Herald Angels Sing (Dogfather, Book 8) by Roxanne St. Claire
Contemporary Romance published by South Street Publishing 9 Nov 18

I’m a sucker for heroes who melt when it comes to not only their heroines, but also children and dogs. Roxanne St. Claire’s Dogfather series has been entertaining from the beginning, dogs on nearly every page, and the Kilcannon family is now easily one of my favorites in romance. On top of these fun and love-filled books, Ms. St. Claire gives a portion of her proceeds to the Alaqua Animal Refuge. So if you haven’t read any of this series, that’s a double reason to get started.

If you’ve now decided you might begin reading about this family and its Waterford Farms, this book isn’t the place to dig in. Yes, each book previous to this one can be read as a standalone, but I recommend you do pick up the first one, because this is a close-knit family and getting to know them all along the way will only enhance your reading pleasure of the series, along with the reason behind the farm, as well as enjoying the dogs and how these Kilkannons love and care for the animals. Though each featured couple is front and center throughout the preceding stories, those darned dogs are a close second every time.

In this novella, it’s the youngest and the oldest, Pru and Gramma Finnie, of the clan who get in a spot of trouble in the midst of working out the “somethings” for Pru’s mother and new-found father’s wedding. After her mom gave her this “assignment” – Pru has been feeling left out of the nupitual planning – she and her grandmother, who has noticed more and more the family is treating her like a child than the matriarch of them all, they’re up for an adventure together.

“Something old” leads them toward a town through the hills, finding a bedraggled dog on the way. The ensuing escapades lead them further astray with all the goodness in their hearts. Eventually snow gets in the way, and the family back home heads out in force to rescue these kind-hearted do-gooders. Fun, while a bit frightening here and there, is to be had all around, along with unexpected angels, and family love and acceptance for the perfect feel-good holiday story for a couple hours’ downtime.

Summary:

With Christmas and a family wedding fast approaching, there’s happy chaos in the air at Waterford Farm. However, not everyone in the Kilcannon clan is caught up in the magic of the moment. Matriarch, octogenarian, and beloved blogger Gramma Finnie hears the clock of her long life ticking far too fast, while her great-granddaughter, teenager Pru, feels squeezed out of planning her mother’s nuptials.

But when this unlikely duo is tasked with the project of producing the “Somethings” for the wedding – and only have Christmas Eve to get the job done – Gramma Finnie and Pru have a purpose and a plan. They set off to find the perfect old, new, borrowed, and blue treasures, but it doesn’t take long for things to spin out of control faster than Gramma’s Toyota in a snowstorm. Detoured by a stray border collie, thwarted by nature and an elf parade, and trapped by a rifle-toting mountain man, it will take more than the power of the Kilcannon clan to save these two from a Christmas catastrophe. It will take the luck of the Irish, a love story from long ago, and a whole lot of help from the angels to make this holiday merry and bright.
