Book CoverVeena’s review of Torched (Dragon Kings, Book 13) by Donna Grant
Fantasy Romance published by St. Martin’s Paperbacks 29 May 18

Ulrich is the most controversial character in the Dragon Kings series. Exiled, stripped of all his powers, he lives for vengeance against the Dragon Kings. Is he as dark as he’s been painted in the series so far? Can he be redeemed? Read this book to find out what the author has in store for him.

We’ve heard versions of Ulrich’s story from various kings who’ve been friends with him. Now we get to hear his side directly from him. What happened after he was abandoned and left to a fate worse than death?  How did he claw himself out of the pit of madness and grief that he was thrust into?  Once he finally came to terms with his situation, how did he set himself with the tools and relationships necessary for his vengeance? Many secrets are revealed to readers, some of which are new interesting facts. In the last few books, Ms. Grant has given us glimpses of the honorable person Ulrich once was, setting the stage for a possible redemption, but the way this story plays out is superb. In fact, I think this book might be the best book in the series so far.

In a nice sleight of hand, Usail has challenged Rhi by exiling her. I can’t wait to see what repercussions there will be from this action. The series is heating up nicely, and like all those other fans out there, I’m waiting for Rhi and Constantine’s stories.

Grade: A
