Kristie J’s review of Instant Attraction (Wilder, Book 1) by Jill Shalvis
Contemporary Romance published by Brava 2 Oct 12
The hero, Cameron Wilder, is a former award-winning skier extraordinaire, but when he suffers a career-ending injury, he heads home where his family runs Wilder Adventures and Expeditions, a kind of ski lodge and business. Katie Kramer is the heroine, who, after going through a traumatic event, is ready for a big change in her life and that means taking a temporary job at a ski resort in Wishful, California. He meets her and is attracted. She meets him and is attracted, and to quote Seinfeld, “Yadda, yadda, yadda.”
I read some of this book, put it down to read another book, picked it up again, but then another book called to me. I picked it up a third time, but, again, I put it down to read a different book. If a book is this easy to put down, I’m thinking I’m not really going to enjoy it all that much. I find both hero and heroine on the bland side, and since I have so many other stories waiting for me, three attempts is enough. I’ve enjoyed Jill Shalvis’ books in the past and probably will in the future, just not this one.
Being honest, some of it may have been because I was going through a rather scary time in real life. My son had to go for some serious surgery – and he’s fine by the way and came through with flying colours – but unless it was a guaranteed winner, I had a hard time concentrating. I did read a number of comfort reads during this time, so this book may have been the wrong read at the wrong time.
Summary:
Accountant Katie Kramer is a quintessential good girl—working hard, recycling diligently, all the while trying to ignore the feeling that she doesn’t fit in anywhere. That’s all she wants. Well, that—and amazing sex, and the kind of daredevil escapade she can look back on when she’s crunching numbers in a dusty cubicle. Which explains why she just took a job in Wishful, California, working for Wilder Adventures and Expeditions. Waking up to find a magnificently built stranger towering over her bed—that part defies explanation…
After wandering the planet for months following a life-changing accident, Cameron Wilder has come back to the only home he knows. Under other circumstances, he might be thrilled to find a gorgeous woman sleeping in his cabin, but now, while he’ll risk his body taking clients on adrenaline-drenched excursions, his heart is off limits. Still, Katie’s killer smile triggers something deep in his gut… among other places. Showing her how exhilarating it can be to stop balancing her life as if it was a checkbook is the biggest rush he’s ever felt—and an adventure Katie’s wishing would never end…
