Book CoverVeena’s review of The Wicked Vampire (Last True Vampire, Book 6) by Kate Baxter
Paranormal Romance published by St Martin’s Press 05 Dec 17

I have enjoyed other romances by Kate Baxter, but this particular series just did not do it for me. For a bit I thought it was because we are knee deep in the series and I didn’t get the references from earlier books, but that’s not it.  This series, though full of vampires and hunters and other paranormals, just does not float my boat.

Sasha is an unhappy vampire who likes to live it up, until the night she goes to a fight and is hooked to the berserker fighting in the cage.  Vampires and berserkers are mortal enemies and neither the twain will meet until these two go hot and heavy.

Ethan is fighting in the cage to make money so he can leave his brethren. He’s been trained to hate and kill, especially vampires. It’s unthinkable that he’s so attracted to one and even allows her to sip his blood.  There are a lot of cage fights, plots and counter-plots that I got lost in, and, of course, sex.  I abandoned the book part way through, but that does not mean that others could not enjoy it.

Grade: DNF

Summary:

The world melted away. Nothing mattered but this moment. His mouth on hers, the heat of his kiss, her own lightheadedness, and the way he awakened her.
If she had it her way, reality would never barge in to interrupt them again.

Sasha Ivanov is a vampire party girl, living life on the edge. Drinking, dancing, and hooking up–she’s tired of playing it safe. But when she finds herself tethered to a mortal enemy, she realizes she’s about to play the most dangerous game of all.

Ewan Brún’s existence has been steeped in violence. A berserker, he is viewed as nothing more than a mindless fiend in the supernatural world, and Ewan has no qualms with perpetuating that myth. Until he finds himself thrown into the company of a gorgeous vampire who claims he’s her mate. The stunning beauty is able to soothe the beast in his soul like no other ever could. But Sasha is his clan’s nemesis, and Ewan and Sasha must decide: is loyalty most important? Or could their budding love trump all?
