Book CoverKristie J’s review of Loving Storm (Ashes & Embers, Book 5) by Carian Cole
Contemporary Romance published by Amazon Digital Services 11 Oct 17

Although technically this review is for Loving Storm, it’s actually a two-fer because there is no point reading this book if you haven’t read the first book, Storm, first.  And since I ADORE that first book and have let everyone know, I’m more than happy to keep sharing.

I did do a previous review of Storm, but below is a recap and kind of second review since you really do need to read it.  Reading the other books in this series will also help as those characters appear briefly in Loving Storm.  And Storm is on for a very good price at Amazon, so I’m telling anyone reading this they simply MUST pick it up

Ashes and Embers is a rock band, and Storm Valentine is the lead guitarist.  He meets Evelyn in a snow storm when she drives her car off the road and he rescues her, only to have his truck become disabled.  They are thus stuck in his truck for a couple of days while waiting for the blizzard to end.  Evie has no idea he’s actually famous and huffs and puffs the entire time.  In a delicious and adorable way, she has a huge stick up her butt and isn’t pleased that she’s been rescued by this long-haired, tattooed-up guy who wears of all things – guy liner.

Storm, for his part, is charmed and loves the fact that she doesn’t know who he is and enjoys being treated like a normal guy instead of someone rich and famous.  Almost against her wishes, Strom and Evie develop quite a strong bond while trapped in his truck and Storm wants to develop a real relationship with her once they are finally rescued.  But Evie has a boyfriend she lives with and, even though he is an insensitive jerk who obviously doesn’t deserve her, Evie will not start something with Storm as long as her bf is in the picture.  She’s been with him for years and years and it’s very hard for her to break away, even though she has growing feelings for Storm.

So that’s a brief synopsis of Storm.  It’s a WONDERFUL book, one I’ve read numerous times already.  It’s the kind that warms the cockles of one’s heart and I give it the highest marks I can.

Ms. Cole has gone on to write a few more books about members of the band as well as a couple of other connected books, all of which I’ve read and reread and reread and adored.  Loving Storm is a much shorter story, kind of catching us up on what’s happening with Storm and Evie since last we got to spend quality time with them.

The day Loving Storm was due to release, I checked my Kindle to see if it had been delivered – somewhere around 8:00 am-ish – but it wasn’t.  I kept checking almost hourly, I was that keen on it, and finally – finally – it went live about 9:00 pm-ish.  I started reading at 9:05 pm-ish and didn’t stop until I’d finished – not even for dinner, people.  And I’m ever so happy to report I loved it.  Although Storm and Evie had both popped up in some of the other books, it was ever so nice to spend quality time with them again.

They are still happy and still devoted to each other.  But Evie does have her insecurities.  He’s rich, he’s famous and he’s very, very attractive.  He’s completely smitten with her, but there are always those who would just love to cause trouble for Storm and Evie.

What I especially appreciated in this book is seeing Storm’s POV also.  We didn’t get that in Storm, and seeing in his head just makes him all that more of a great hero.

Although short, novella length, and not a lot of conflict, still I give Loving Storm the highest grade, just because it’s Storm and Evie and, too, it’s deserving of them.

Summary:

Evie
I met him in a snowstorm…
We spent forty-eight hours trapped in the back of his pickup truck.
We fought.
We touched.
We fell.
Hard.

Storm
She literally crashed into my life…
The last thing I wanted was a relationship. Especially with a quirky chick who drove me insane. But something about her got under my skin, and into my heart.
And I had to have her.
All of her.
Now.

Falling in love in the back of a truck, just the two of us, was easy.
Dealing with psycho fans, jealous exes, and demons from the past….not so easy.

Please note: Loving Storm is a novella that gives an extended look into Storm and Evie’s future. It is best read after reading Storm (and also Vandal, Lukas, and Talon, as those characters have short cameos in this book)
