Veena’s review of Just What I Needed (Need You, Book 2) by Lorelei James
Contemporary Romance published by Signet 02 Aug 16
This is the second chapter in the delightful Need You series which started with Brady Lund. It’s his brother Walker who’s up this go-round. He’s gorgeous and women fall all over him, but he’s also a fixer-upper which seems to have translated to very needy girlfriends in his past. Trinity Carlson is an artist, she’s dreamy but knows what she wants and goes after it. She makes quite the first impression on him when she walks up to him and gives him a kiss that makes his head spin. That makes for a delicious start to the story. Read on for a peak into where does it goes from here for this Lund boy.
Just when Trinity thought her bad day is finally looking up, the gorgeous stranger she’s just picked up in a bar gets an emergency phone call and leaves in a rush with a promise to call her for a dinner date. Wait! She just gave him the wrong name and phone number, ending any chance of seeing him again. Walker is just as interested and, therefore, not happy to discover that he’d been fooled by a pretty face again. Fate, however, has a different ending in mind for them and brings them together at a charity where they are both volunteering their time.
Walker is a great guy. He’s solid and down to earth, surrounded by a wonderful group of family and friends. The interaction in his office and between his brothers as they coax out all the gory details are so cute, as is the Lund family grapevine. He gets solid advice from his cousin on what to take on a picnic, which wins him solid points from Trinity. There is absolutely no secret about their chemistry and he coaxes it gently into a conflagration when they finally get beyond kissing and petting.
Trinity is a true artist. Her mind goes in so many different directions and when she’s immersed in creating, she loses track of everything. It’s a good thing that Walker is a great balance to her creativity, fixing her air conditioner, feeding her, etc. She has her own set of insecurities, and as the story goes on and she finally shares some of her back story with Walker, it breaks my heart, but I love how determined he is to provide the right positive reinforcement. There are some delightful moments when they are surprised by his parents one morning.
I really enjoyed being a part of Trinity’s creation process when she looks at her half-finished almost abandoned piece and then turns it around and it gets her creativity flowing or when she’s creating her commissioned master piece, which is such a focal point of this story. In the same way I love the camaraderie between the Lund family siblings and cousins, especially the intervention on the boat.
All in all, a quick and delightful read. I absolutely can’t wait for the next chapter in this series.
