Veena’s review of Need Me (Broke and Beautiful, Book 1) by Tessa Bailey
Contemporary Romance published by Avon Impulse 21 Apr 15

If you like your romance hot, then this book is for you, since every single encounter between the hero and heroine is scorching hot. Ben Dawson is walking sex in a tweed jacket and he’s a college professor to boot.  It’s a good thing that he exists in Ms. Bailey’s imagination; otherwise, I would worry about the fate of our college students who find themselves in his class like Honey did.  While the story is somewhat predictable, the journey is scorching hot with some laughs thrown in.

Honey is a pre-medical student at Columbia and she’s a student in Ben’s English class. Ben, who carries significant baggage from his childhood when his father was caught with an underage girl, is determined to walk the straight and narrow and resist any temptation, considering that he’s a young college professor surrounded by nubile college students.  Honey, however, gets to him on several fronts. Her writing appeals to his intellect and imagination, even before he puts her together with the young Lolita in his class room who raises his temperature and messes with his concentration.  The final nail in his coffin is that she’s roommates with Roxy, his friend Louis’s fiancée.

She definitely is also a young Lolita with her endearing mix of shyness and bold attempts to snare Ben. Their mutual obsession with her panties is so cute, especially since they don’t last long on her body.  Ben’s grand gesture to win her back, when he’s all but destroyed any chance at a relationship between them, is the icing on the cake, making the story too cute for words.

I like the evolution of this series and the tension that is now building between Abby and Russell.

Grade: B

Summary:

When Honey Perribow traded in her cowboy boots for stilettos and left her small Kentucky town to attend Columbia University, she never expected to find a dirt-cheap apartment or two new best friends. No stranger to hard work, Honey is completely focused on her medical degree … until she sees newly minted professor Ben Dawson, and her concentration is hijacked. Honey is fascinated by her gorgeous young English professor and vows to find a crack in his tweed-wearing, glasses-clad exterior.

At an off-campus party, an accident lands Ben in a dark, locked closet with a sexy-sounding Southern belle … and their chemistry is explosive. But when he discovers that the girl in his arms is the same beautiful student he can’t stop thinking about, he is stunned. Student-teacher relationships are strictly forbidden … yet no matter how hard he tries, Ben can’t stay away from Honey.

And when his attempt to fight their attraction nearly ruins the best thing that ever happened to him, Ben will do anything to prove how much he needs her.
