Veena’s review of King’s Throne (String of Fate, Book 2) by Bianca D’Arc
Paranormal Romance published by Liefde Press 05 May 14

I loved the first book in this series where Cade, Elaine, Gina, and Ria all captured my imagination and I couldn’t wait for Gina and Ria to get their own stories. For a long time it seemed like the author had forgotten these fascinating characters and carried on with other shifter stories, some of whom we meet between the pages of this book. Finally Book 2 featuring Elaine’s friend Gina, who happens to be a rare white tiger princess, is here and it’s definitely well worth the wait. The book picks up right where the first one ended and reveals the next fascinating chapter in the story.

Mitch is injured while protecting the Nyxx, leader of the Pantera Noir. Elaine is a human who happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time but takes the injured Mitch and his friend, fellow bodyguard Cade, to her apartment, where her friend Gina provides medical attention. Mitch appears to have been injected with something that doesn’t seem to respond to Gina’s treatment, even the doses of her blood that’s supposed to be like a super healing drug. Needing stronger reinforcements, Gina takes him home to her mom, who’s also a nurse, to seek her help. As Mitch begins to heal, a strange thing happens. His once golden fur begins to transform into white, the mark of a royal.

Gina is a princess in exile. Her parents once ruled from the tiger throne but were forced into exile by her uncle, who coveted the throne and didn’t shy from committing murder to get his way. The Tiger did not believe in spilling family blood, so he chose to leave Iceland and relocate to the USA with a coterie of loyal guards. Gina was raised in exile, along with the children of the loyal guard, in relative peace and normality.

The change in Mitch’s color serves as a call to action and a mark that the time is right for the king and his family to reclaim the throne and restore the tiger world. In order to prevail, Mitch will have to challenge and dispose of Gina’s uncle, who currently lays claim to the throne, and win back the Kingdom for Gina’s father. Not an easy task, since Gina’s uncle is an evil man and definitely won’t play fair.

The relationship between Gina and Mitch simmers through almost half the book before it goes any further. Gina is a royal and Mitch is a guard. There is a huge gap between their status, but they both hunger for each other, and finally Mitch can’t resist claiming Gina. I love the relationship development between them and her friends as they form a tight-knit group. When Mitch and Gina consummate their relationship, her father, like all dads, is at first grumpy until they win him over. Love prevails and wins the day, but, as a final step before he can claim his princess, Mitch needs to battle the evil that rules from the Tiger throne and win it for her family.

This story just flows. Their homecoming, the first meeting at the village with their people, Mitch’s battle with her uncle and how the mountain comes to his rescue and makes it a fair fight – fascinating! I love how Mitch becomes one with the mountain and gains strength from the volcano during his battle.

We also get an all-too-brief glimpse of Cade and Elaine and the Nyxx, Ria. It does look like Ria will get her own story and I can’t wait. Ms. D’Arc, please don’t it let be so long between this book and the next in the series again.

Grade: A
