Sandy M’s review of Schooled (Mastered, Book 2.5) by Lorelei James
Erotic Contemporary Romance published by InterMix 2 Dec 14
I have no idea how many books Lorelei James has planned in this new series, but I hope it doesn’t surprise her that her fans will be clamoring for more, more, more. I’m definitely included in that group. Ms. James can only write cowboys? Yeah, right. A relationship that thrives on love and Japanese rope binding should intrigue anyone to pick up the books in this series. Then you’ll definitely discover you get so much more than that.
Though this is a novella, it’s packed full of what readers have come to expect from Ms. James. Beginning their honeymoon, Ronin and Amery are in Japan, where Ronin will also go through his annual training with his sensei. Amery is a bit nervous, of course. Being in a foreign land with no friends and meeting Ronin’s family keep her on edge. Especially during the time Ronin is in training. His demanding mentor keeps the man busy nearly fourteen hours a day, coming home only to eat and fall asleep. But it’s the in-between time that is sweet and pleasurable, just the two of them to do as they please.
And as they please scorches the pages of the book. Ronin and Amery have had their ups and downs so far, but after all is said and done, their lovemaking is off the charts. It’s even sweeter here since their relationship is now on a whole new level. I have thoroughly enjoyed the intimacy that’s shared between these two with the rope tying Ronin masterfully applies to Amery, and I hope we see more of it as the series continues. I also like the eye opening Amery receives when she learns where Ronin learned his rope mastery. The whole backdrop of this series is intriguing and Ms. James has done remarkable research, especially in this novella when it comes to the lessons Ronin has to learn with his sensei, even after so many years.
This is a great intermediate tie-in for the series, giving readers a chance to catch up with Ronin and Amery before the next book. It should hold us for a while until that times comes. Hopefully.
Summary:
When Amery Hardwick first met martial arts master Ronin Black, she wasn’t ready for the primal urges his sensual rope artistry released in her. As it turned out Amery and Ronin were made for each other. But when they head to Japan for a delayed honeymoon and Ronin’s annual training with his sensei, Amery struggles to adapt to the foreign customs as well as running her burgeoning business from afar. But culture shock is the least of her worries when faced with the changes in Ronin—it feels as if she’s married a stranger.
Caught between his sensei’s demands and pleasing his wife, Ronin is at war with himself over choosing advancement in his jujitsu training, or staying at home with the woman who owns his heart and soul. As the limits of their relationship are tested once again, Ronin and Amery discover that they both have a lot to learn about each other….and what it takes to build a love that’ll pass all life’s little tests.
