Sandy M’s review of Long Way Home (Hanover Brothers, Book 3) by HelenKay Dimon
Contemporary Romance published by Intermix 19 Aug 14

As much as I’ve enjoyed the first two books in this series, it’s Callen’s book I’ve waited for. This hero has had so much unhappiness and the crappiest luck in his life. So I love reading about times with his brothers, now that they’re together and facing the fallout their conman father left behind. But at the end of the last book, when Callen’s world crashed yet again, I couldn’t even fathom what Ms. Dimon would do with this man who’s burrowed his way into my heart.

Now Callen has a whole new problem. The woman he thought at one time was the one for him is in town, and her betrayal is like it happened yesterday. He wants nothing to do with her, especially since he’s still dealing with the fact his mother lied to him for so many years. He understands why, but his heart hasn’t caught up yet. So Grace being in the picture again is something he just doesn’t need, although when he finally sees her, his body certainly disagrees. Determined to keep this FBI agent at arm’s length, Callen pushes everything deep inside and tries to live the life he’s found in Sweetwater.

However, Grace isn’t about to give up on the man she loves. And there’s a lot more at stake that he needs to know about. She left the FBI before they met, she was only curious about Callen because her ex-partner is so hell bent on taking the man down. What she didn’t expect was to fall under his spell so quickly and so completely. Now she just has to make him listen to reason, something he doesn’t know how to do. When she learns Walker is also in town, things become much more complicated than she’d ever imagined.

I love all the unexpected twists and turns in this book. As they come along, Callen has to look at life differently each time and eventually decide what he’s going to do about it all. Grace stays front and center so he won’t forget what’s coming. Of course, having Walker around is making things more difficult, as does Marc Baron, Callen’s father’s partner in crime all those years ago. That man is a piece of work, especially when his daughter is engaged to Callen’s brother. But through it all, Callen and Grace find their way back to each other, and even more so once Callen really sees the light after making peace with his mother and seeing a bright future ahead.

Of course, everything is nearly taken off track when things come to a head with Walker. And that’s the biggest twist of all, one I definitely didn’t see coming. I knew something was up, but not precisely what Ms. Dimon’s imagination comes up with. Thus the reason we also get another book in the series, one I’m anticipating as much as I did this one. But through it all, even if it was the long way home, Callen makes it. There will still be a few ripples here and there for him and Grace, but it’s all come together quite nicely, and I had a great time with these two and the rest of the family. I’m going to miss the Hanovers once all is said and done.
