The Lady of the Storm: A Musical Journey
I’m so pleased to be here today to share a bit about the release of The Lady of the Storm! I had so much fun posting a musical journey for my previous book, that I thought I’d do the same here today for The Lady of the Storm. I searched for songs that I thought might best convey the essence of scenes or characters in my book. So please join me on a musical journey through The Lady of the Storm.
My heroine, Lady Cecily Sutton, has inherited the powers of sea and sky from her elven lord father and has turned her back on her magical gifts for years. But when her village is invaded she is forced to face her destiny…and Giles Beaumont, the man who once broke her heart. Although she tries to deny it, she soon realizes she’s still in love with him. Kiss from a Rose by Seal describes Cecily’s inner turmoil:
My hero, Sir Giles Beaumont, is a man who longs for adventure and excitement. Lady Cecily, with her title and longing for a peaceful home life, doesn’t fit into his visions for the future at all. But after years of protecting her, he finds himself entirely too intrigued by the woman, and the song I Hope that I Don’t Fall in Love with You by Tom Waits echoes his own conflict:
As Cecily and Giles journey through an England altered by elven enchantments, this song by ELO, Strange Magic, captures a bit of the essence of the world:
There is a pivotal moment on their journey when Cecily is contacted by her foster-father through the vibrations within a magical crystal mountain, and this is the first clue to her true destiny. The Voice by Celtic Woman is an eerie reflection of that scene:
When I started writing the book, I had no idea that Giles would be twice cursed, and although it became his greatest challenge in the story, I think he became a better man for it. The following song, Pretty Amazing Grace, by Neil Diamond (one of my favorite singer/songwriters) personifies Giles’s feelings toward Cecily after this dreadful event toward the end of the book.

I rarely listen to songs, and my sisters scold that I’m musically deaf..LOL 😉 but I do hum along (loudly and out of tune) with a few songs like “Desert Rose – Sting” or “Enigma” !!

ground of some 259 years of experience for the six of us. It would be almost impossible to
focus on one group or piece of music as a favorite. Currently my own interest is mainly on
the religious music we sing as music ministers in our parish.

It was so nice to have the links to the songs to see the ones I wasn’t familiar with. Some songs really tell a story and remind me of a story and it was interesting to see what songs were relevant to Kathryne’s story.
I always listen to Planzma (Russian group but sings in English). They songs got me through a lot of hard times.
