Wild Hunt, the third book in the Unbound trilogy by Lori Devoti will be released by Silhouette Nocturne in June 2008. Read the blurb and excerpt, then read on to find out about the contest!
Natural enemies–hellhound and Valkyrie–their alliance made them more powerful than anyone could anticipate…
Alongside his hellhound brethren, Venge Leidolf was summoned to start the Wild Hunt anew. But in this dreaded pursuit of souls, Venge sought to free himself from his infernal bondage–by claiming the heart of a fierce Valkyrie…
Geysa never questioned the alluring gifts that set her apart from the other Valkyries, or her hatred of hellhounds–until Venge fell under her spell. Drawing the alpha hellhound so close made Geysa doubt her every instinct. To stop the Hunt, the two blood-born enemies would need to cast aside old vows and allegiances. Only then could no one question the strength of their union…

You can find find out more about the Unbound world here. The previous two books in the trilogy were reviewed and enjoyed by Sandy, and I’ve read numerous recommendations.
Book 1: Unbound |
Book 2: Guardian’s Keep |
Have we piqued your interest? I must admit to being interested in finding out more about the hellhounds. Don’t think I’ve read any hellhounds…that’s refreshing. Lori Devoti is giving away ten copies of Wild Hunt and ten copies of Unbound to twenty lucky readers residing in the US or Canada. But such a bounty does not come without a price. If you win, you are obligated to review, discuss or mention the book somewhere on the ‘Nets. On your blog, myspace page, website, where ever. Them’s the rules. Think about your karma.
Now, to enter the contest I want you to answer the following question:
What is the most unusual supernatural creature you’ve seen featured in a paranormal?
Contest will end on Saturday, May 3 at noon. Go, ponder, comment, and keep your fingers crossed!! *Closed*
A wererat. I can’t still fathom someone who turns into a rat – poor guy.
Valkyries always make me think of Opera. And, I agree with Wendy – I saw those in Nalini Singh’s Psy/Changeling books – it was… different. Otherwise um… maybe a banshee?
hmm…that’s a hard one. I would have to say the plant monster from Blood Rites by Jim Butcher. Or any other creature from that series lol Harry faces some weird things.
Well, I encountered shape-shifting motorcycles fairly recently. I couldn’t believe it, either, and I still wasn’t sure I bought the premise after I read the books, but you know, I will never forget the name Alice Gaines now when I’m shopping for books.
I already read and liked UNBOUND so I’d be happy to participate in this contest. Hm, most unusual paranormal creature… Maybe the way Ukiah Oregon turned into mice? There was also a tortoise part, I think. Not traditional shifting, granted, but unusual!
I agree with Wendy, wererats are the scariest paranormal creatures. I had never thought of such a thing until I read the Anita Blake series. scary, sary.
There was mention of a snake shifter in the PsyChangeling books, but I think the Gargoyle in Marjorie Liu’s short story… ah, can’t remember the name! Dark Dreamer was the book, I believe.
The review is for the giveaway title, correct?
I think a chaos demon (Personal Demon, Kelley Armstrong) was pretty different. This is one of those questions that my mind went blank the instant I read it.
I would absolutely agree to read and review. ^_^
Azteclady, I liked the gargoyle shape-shifter! I think they should feature them more. A snake shifter would be pretty disgusting.
And I checked and I have Unbound on my TBR pile! Sweet!
I checked, the story is “A Dream of Stone and Shadow” and Charlie, the Gargoyle, is an amazing character.
He is. 🙂 There was a wererat in the Kate Daniels books, the first one I think – Magic Bites.
Ack, you are right! I had completely forgotten the wererat! And there was a lynxwere too 😀
Yeah! the lynx was totally awesome, especially when he was sort of flirting with Kate – So cute!!
Azteclady, that reminds me there’s a gargoyle that becomes a woman in Garth Nix’s short story “Bad Luck, Trouble, Death, and Vampire Sex.” (Not a shifter, really, but still . . . )
Hmm…I don’t remember since I have not had the chance to read alot of paranormal books…maybe Night Rising by Chris Marie Green’s , but I do not know what they are called.
Keri Arthur has some unusual creatures featured in her Riley Jensen books.
Azteclady–the review would be for the giveaway title, yes.
Great discussion everybody. I have got to pull out the Liu novella. I’ve had it for awhile, and I love the idea of a gargoyle. I recently picked up Vickie Taylor’s Heart of Stone with a gargoyle. Has anyone read CE Murphy’s Heart of Stone? Another one I haven’t gotten too yet.
I read a Changeling Press book featuring a Yeti and a Brazilian Fire Serpent. Top that!
Devon, you are not going to regret reading the novella–Charlie is my favorite shifter so far, from Liu’s 😀
Kathryne Kennedy also has a wererat in Enchanting the Lady, I think it was.
But I think Elizabeth Amber’s Sons of Satyr are the most unusual I’ve read with the double penises (is that penii? penae?) and the last heroine who has her own!
Wow so we made this way too easy… 20 books? Next time people have to give blood or sumthing.
I have the Dark Dreamers novella as well, and Charlie’s a great character. I haven’t read C.E. Murphy’s Heart of Stone yet but I’m really looking forward to it! 😀 I think I have a Vickie Taylor book, too but I can’t remember which one.
A robot who shapeshifts into an evil car that tries to kill people. In other words, Bender B Rodriguez in a particular episode of Futurama 😉
Have a lovely day! 🙂
Shapeshifting mototcycles? I think the author had a crush on the Transformers as a child.
My mind is somehow drawing a blank as well, but I’m going to agree with the others, that a were-rat is just strange. Talk about the short end of the straw when being gifted with shifter abilities. LOL
Deidre
Good luck everyone. Lori’s books are really good.
Don’t enter me in the drawing as I am unfortunately overseas
