The Lost Duke of Wyndham by Julia Quinn will be our first ARC to Fly South for the Winter.
Well, that isn’t strictly true. I have no clue where yet to where the book will fly… THAT is up to YOU.
The contest starts NOW! Read on…
The Lost Duke of Wyndham (Two Dukes of Wyndham, Book 1) by Julia Quinn, blurb:
Will the Real Duke of Wyndham Please Stand Up?
Jack Audley has been a highwayman. A soldier. And he has always been a rogue. What he is not, and never wanted to be, is a peer of the realm, responsible for an ancient heritage and the livelihood of hundreds. But when he is recognized as the long-lost son of the House of Wyndham, his carefree life is over. And if his birth proves to be legitimate, then he will find himself with the one title he never wanted: Duke of Wyndham.
Grace Eversleigh has spent the last five years toiling as the companion to the dowager Duchess of Wyndham. It is a thankless job, with very little break from the routine… until Jack Audley lands in her life, all rakish smiles and debonair charm. He is not a man who takes no for an answer, and when she is in his arms, she’s not a woman who wants to say no. But if he is the true duke, then he is the one man she can never have…

We were supposed to talk about “mixing business with pleasure” for the reviews.
If not, I’ll review a different book 😀
Well, it’s the only review I’ve ever written of a Quinn book, so here goes . . .
Poor Penelope has been the ultimate wallflower for the past ten years. Her come out was a disaster and things haven’t gotten much better since. Now she’s 28 and an “on the shelf spinster”. She is reacquainted with Colin, the brother of her best friend and the man she has carried a torch for since she was 16. She quietly adores him while outwardly carrying on a lighthearted friendship with him. She is realistic enough to accept that there will never be anything else between them. For Colin is “the most charming man in London”, not to mention handsome, funny and just plain nice. As she spends more time with Colin, she is surprised to discover that he feels adrift with no real purpose in life. He wants to be thought of as something more than just “charming”.
Colin starts to see something in Penelope that he never recognized before. The more he is around her, the more he is surprised by her. She actually berates him for feeling sorry for himself and tells him to stop complaining and do something to change his life. She’s smart, funny, independent, and no longer the frumpy, clumsy, utterly forgettable girl she used to be. OK, she is still a little clumsy, but now she’s a self-posessed woman who is not afraid to speak her mind. And, Colin discovers much to his alarm, she’s not so forgettable. He finds himself attracted to her, not just mentally but physically. Wow!
I liked that the romance was pretty realistic given who these two people were. My only quibble is with Penelope’s stubborn actions toward the end of the book. Why mess with a good thing? But all in all this was a fun, witty enjoyable read.
The woman on the cover looks very like the actress who plays Vienna on the soap AS THE WORLD TURNS! Just a weird observation . . .
Rats!
There was the best typo ever… and now it’s gone
*chuckling*
Does a review of a novella/anthology count?
A review of any Julia Quinn.
If you’re going to post the review here in comments, don’t forget to tell us the name of the book.
Well, my first one was of “The Secret Diaries of Miss Miranda Cheever” – but whatever… so here’s one of I believe the first JQ I read – or one of the first (and one of the first ebooks I read as well!)
Daphne Bridgerton has had enough of men – or boys, rather. After all, she has 4 brothers, three of them older. However, one must do what is required of her, and enter the marriage mart. Accordingly, Daphne bravely and gamely wades her way into the melee. Unfortunately, she’s been through it before and the pickings are slim. Might the third time actually be the charm?
Simon Arthur Henry Firtzranulph Basset, the Earl of Clyvedon, is now the tenth Duke of Hastings, and back from years abroad. He had a very difficult childhood, and is wary of social settings.
What draws them together, is that Daphne is the girl next door. She’s nice, witty, easy to talk to, attractive, and normal. She doesn’t throw fits, faint and the drop of a hat, and is unlike other females. She’s also decidedly not blonde. Neither of them is interested in the other, and their personalities simply won’t suit… will they?
Actually, yes. They do. Immensely. The two get married and settle down to their happily ever after. Not – they get married, and find their fair share of troubles in married life. However, love, once they realize they’re in it, must conquer all. And does.
A terrific read. This is the first of the Bridgerton series, and I think, one of the best. You might also recognize the gossip columnist, Lady Whistledown, who debuted with this novel. (Personally, I could do without her… but I guess she is a necessary “character.”)
hmmmm
Have you been good lately Devon?
I’ve been good! Can I play too? I wanna play if Devon does!
canicanicanicanicanicani?
LOL dude Devon already called it… see if she will fly it to you after she is done with it… and than you have to fly it away…
Point here is
A. READER REVIEWS
B. ADVANCE BUZZZZZZZZZZZ
C. Sharing with the reader community. In a legal way, we here at TGTBTU aren’t lawyer’s but we are funny that way.
The idea could crash and burn but so far the feedback has been awesome. I will post more about the rules and regs since gwen mucked it up ::sheeze:: :D.
AUTHORS!!!!!!!!!
If you want your ARC Flown Forward email me, please subject the email Fly It Forward.
Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!
I’ve been a veritable saint.
Sandy,of course I shall fly it to you.
My Favorite Bridgerton
Here’s an old review of mine. Surprisingly, it’s the only JQ review I have. I went on a big time Bridgerton glom awhile ago.
Dude… YOU reviwers are swimming in ARCs the point is to share
[stop looking at my ward, hey! Gave her Bam’s address to send her a copy. Go forth and annoy her]
My point normally sandy dear, you have more than enough ARC’s you are tripping over them! We here at TGTBTU are spreading the wealth in romanceland.
AKA not get more ARC’s in Sandy’s home… bad sandy (uh unless it is an ARC syb doesn’t have and she wants and than all bets are off – see I am a sharer with their ARCs *g*)
Seriously this isn’t difficult and I will do a feather by feather instruction tomorrow since I want to go read. LOL right after I hit send on this Harlequin order. Good god someone needs to take away my CC.
Review MUST BE NEW.
YOU can have read the book whenever BUT you had to have read the book.
The Review can be SHORT. Doesn’t have to be a book report. The point is honest! Real live Reader Reviews. I am using Amazon since so many people seem to think it means something. So I thought it would be a kick for the romance reader community to help make it mean something.
They can be positive or negative reviews. Don’t bash the author of the ARC you want to win. That would be stoopid. Saying Book X by Julia Quinn was a disappointment and didn’t live up to my expectations. Is not bashing the author. If this is something you don’t understand… run along please… contest tis not for you. And we can talk about that in another post another day.
k? k! Txs!
But really this isn’t as difficult as Gwen is making it out to be ::looks at gwen:: really… she is so difficult that gwen…
le sigh at this rate I should extend this to monday…
My FIF entry review is here:
The Viscount Who Loved Me
Great contest!
My post is up here
Sick of always being the woman who’s taken for granted? Sick of having your one true love think of you as just a friend? Sick of having to wear that horrible dress your mother picked out?
Well, so is Penelope Featherington, the heroine of Romancing Mr. Bridgerton. Penelope Featherington is a woman perhaps all of us former ugly ducklings can identify with: she’s awkward, has been in love with Colin Bridgerton since she can remember, and has to deal with a mother from he**. But Penelope hides a secret—-one that could potentially ruin her.
Colin, the love of Penelope’s life, is an easy man to like. He’s easygoing, handsome, and has just returned to England after travelling abroad. But behind that public persona, lies a person who’s looking for his place in a world; his older brothers know who they are, but Colin struggles. But one person has always remained constant in Colin’s life and believed in him—-Penelope.
But then Penelope shocks him by a request—-will he kiss her? After all, she doesn’t think anyone ever will and a woman at a certain age should be kissed. Colin, being the ever agreeable fellow that he is complies but is shocked by his response—-he wants her. And not as just a friend anymore.
When Colin uncovers her secret, the sense of betrayal cuts deep. Here was one person he could count on, but even Penelope has changed. Despite this, he can’t deny his desire—-or his growing love for her—-but will they both be able to avoid the looming scandal that threatens once her secret gets out?
With her trademark wit and loveable Bridgerton family, Julia Quinn delivers a novel full of romance and a love story that any person who’s loved someone from afar will sigh after reading the last page. It’s, in many ways, a story of two people coming into their own and realizing their place in the world. Both of them hide beneath a public persona—Penelope as the perpetual wallflower and Colin as the easy charmer, yet there’s more to them than those vague labels. Together, they are able to navigate the path to self-discovery and love. If you ever wanted to read a romance about the Ugly Duckling turned Swan who gets her man, read Romancing Mr. Bridgerton.
Whoops – found a typo – but that only makes me relatable and “every person” – right? *Right?!* 😉 Plus I make up words like a pro.
NOOOOO!!!! How did I miss this contest? I’m an idiot! *sobbing*
Oh noes! I can’t believe I missed this.
I know!
And I only moved the date to extend TWICE! I was accused of making readers think too hard *g* but more on that later…
First to decide which of these to pick!
Since it has (just barely) been a week, I was wondering if ya’ll had chosen a winner yet. (Because I
am impatientlove Julia Quinn.)It is hard to pick! I tried to push it off on Quinn even brat is off in Mexico or sumthing. So I thought about a poll 🙂 see I am ever so clever about pushing it off on someone else.
And I gave myself a migraine and went to sleep. One copy is with Lawson (unread mind you I think she is going to get to it this weekend) and another with Devon. But I have a third so I may just take all the people who entered take my top three and pick out of a hat.
Pretty much you are screwed until the drugs wear off. Ask me tomorrow.
*laughing hysterically* It’s okay, I’m terrible at decision-making too.
Thanks for the prompt answer, and enjoy your drugs.
I should be finished with it today, if that helps 🙂
Hey! How’d you end up with three copies????
JQ, who only has one
The stars aligned right? Hell if I know… I am thinking it is cuz I am SUCH A NICE GIRL!
Stop looking at me like that! It is true.
They are jackhammering in the warehouse attached to my office. AS IN SHARES a wall. I did something really bad in a past life, okay maybe in my youth, err or hell in my case could be yesterday, either way if we wait for the drugs to wear off the book will be released and could be out of print.
Give me a min I will have a winner or a poll or something and taxes have been done so I will face a post office for you peeps… The Book She Flies Tonight.
Syb – I’ve been trying so hard to be good and not harass- but I want to know! And I want to know how you have more pull than the author herself with regards to books.
Black magix at work, hmm? 😉
Haha, you lasted longer than I did about not harrassing Sybil.
Oh it is down to two peeps so I am waiting on a tie breaker vote who has not answered her phone.
blech. And I was going to to be sneaky and just mail the book if it goes to one person but I was thinking what if they want it mailed to another address… so yep need to say.
so no surprise… sniff…
I give it about 20 more mins than I will call the lil sister and have her pick a number and she will be the tie breaker between the two…
tick tock tick tock…
I can’t make up my mind….
I am going back and forth between Elyssa‘s review and Liviania‘s review.
Any suggestions? The mail goes out at 1…
