What have I missed?
Does anyone know why The Perfect Wife by Victoria Alexander, a REPRINT!, is # 1 on the NY Times Best Seller List? The reader reviews I’m finding do not compute. Who out there is buying all these books?
It sits nicely on top of:
2. I HEARD THAT SONG BEFORE by Mary Higgins Clark
3. OBSESSION by Jonathan Kellerman
4. NAUGHTY NEIGHBOR by Janet Evanovich
5. THE 5TH HORSEMAN by James Patterson and Maxine Paetro
6. REVELATION by Karen Traviss
7. THE ALIBI MAN by Tami Hoag
8. PREDATORY GAME by Christine Feehan
9. DEEP STORM by Lincoln Child
10. THE OTHER BOLEYN GIRL by Philippa Gregory
11. KILLER SECRETS by Lora Leigh (I was going to go to 10 but I needed Lora in here)
Based on these reader opinions it just doesn’t compute. What do y’all think?
le sigh
never mind but I like the stepback it makes me giggle
Hey, I tried. Talk to Gwen…
Dude
Gwen I lurve you so… I take it all back. Alicia you should be ashamed. I think the pornolishous cover must of made it number one. I mean it is over a LL SEAL book! That is all sorts of shades of WRONG man. Just wrong.
Because 99% of readers don’t look at the copyright date. I’d bet dollars to donuts that many readers think this is a “new” book. Can’t tell you how many library patrons have stormed up to me ticked off that Book B with a shiny new cover is actually Book A they read 5 years ago. It happens a lot – to which all I can do is shrug my shoulders and teach them about the magical, wonderful copyright page……
And Sybil didn’t know this was a reprint until I read the first line of the copyright page to her this afternoon. . .
I would think the fact that VA is waaaaay more popular now has something to do with it. She’s no doubt got a lot of fans now who never read that book the first time around. That’s my take on it, anyway.
Weird. This book isn’t ranking that high on the other bestseller lists.
#83 – USA Today

I guess most of the people think it is a new release.
Sybil the stepback looks really funny.
I’m glad Gwen put the two fronts up for the thumbnail. That stepback is embarrassing!
I think it’s because people think it’s a new book.
I too thought it was the next installment of her latest series until I dug deeper and found out it was a reprint of her second novel (1996). But it took some effort to find that out.
Since I have everything by VA except for her earlier books I have ordered it so that also can be a reason as Kathryn mentioned
Hey – as you know – I’m all FOR porn. Just thought I’d give people a little deniability if they’re at work. “Gawrsh! I didn’t know that would be there” to the boss walking by their desk if they navigated past the front page.
oh god
when gwen is the one making sense it is time for sybils to take a nap
Besides – you had it too small. The thumbnail didn’t do it justice. You should see the look of ecstasy on her face or the glazed donutness of his.
And to those of you who aren’t sure what I am referring to, I am sorry. To those of you who KNOW what I am referring to, I am sorry.
😉
I tell you the perfect wife covers with fake tits is the reason this went to number one.
Men really do read romance and this proves it!
And I fear for the cover of Winter Garden if they ever reprint it. But just think of what they could seed in that garden…
:P~~~
You told me to use the thumbnail! Y’all just wouldn’t imagine what I go through. Hmph!
I was having a very difficult weekend with very spotty net access that makes me a lil buggy! And gwen was mia! The brat. I will call you back she sez neglecting to say she meant in like five years.
I think I cried.
I am neglected and abused!
There, there. At least you got your stepback. *pat pat*
That stepback really is quite durty, isn’t it.
Maybe it’s been out of print a long time and lots of folks were looking for it?
Gwen that stepback rocks 😀
Think she is faking it?
OK so show of hands… HOW many of you have PAID for this book NEW in the last week.
::waiting, oh yes this is hard science::
I think, or at least it used to be this way, NY Times is more about what is ordered by the stores–not exactly sold. USA Today is more about what is actually sold.
I might be wrong since I am mainly an ebook author and don’t compete up with the big gals, but I think that is the difference. I have seen a few authors make NY Times but not do well on other lists because of the reader response.
