Okay — I have a Valentine’s story–
The first Valentine’s my husband (then boyfriend) and I shared came about when we were both in our mid-twenties and poor. We didn’t go out to dinner or anything fancy, but we did exchange cards and small gifts. I still have the card Steve gave me. It was pink and white and said, “The only thing better than Chocolate on Valentine’s Day is…” And when you opened it up it said, “Sharing it with THIS guy!”
Originally inside the card there had been a black and white photo of a very buff, shirtless guy wearing nothing but low-slung jeans. However, there was a not-so subtle difference in the card my sweetie gave me. Steve had put a picture of his own face over top of the model’s. What’s worse — in a good way — was that Steve’s pic was color, a few years out of date (I believe he had a slight mullet) and totally goofy. I laughed so hard I thought my bladder was going to explode.
Is it any wonder I kept him? And to this day he can still make me laugh like nobody else.

What about you, readers? Have any stories of gifts, gifting, and re-gifting that make you laugh to this day?
Oh that is funny! I love a man with a sense of humor, but can’t think of a memory off hand of a gift that makes me burst out laughing.
Kate, that’s gorgeous! He’s definitely a keeper! Actually I think a shared sense of humour (man, just a sense of humour) is one of the things that can really help with the longevity of a relationship. Hmm, perhaps I just want a man who will laugh at my jokes?
That’s so cute. I agree with Anna – your hubby’s definitely a keeper!! 🙂
Oh man..that so cute! It reminds me of a card I gave my husband one year. The front said “silent but deadly” and then inside it said, “enough about your farts, Happy Valentines Day”. It was our kind of humor…
How cute. Your husband is definitely a keeper.
Thanks, ladies! I like him. 🙂
Kathryn, that’s quite the story. Definitely one to be shared. Especially the mullet part ;-).
Too sweet.
I don’t have any fun Valentine’s Day stories. Actually, other than an engagement ring, I’ve never gotten anything interesting for Valentine’s Day. Hubby’s not great with cards. I’d be lucky if the headline didn’t read “Happy Valentine’s Day, Dear Grandmother”
Once a family friend re-gifted my son with the birthday gift we had given her son several months before. It was definitely the same gift, because it was a crappy gift I can admit that. I had grabbed it off the Target shelf and not taken a good look at what it actually was, just saw the Thomas the Train logo.
Thanks for sharing your story, Kathryn. I don’t have any stories to share.
