Gwen’s review of Highlander in Her Dreams by Allie Mackay
Timetravel romance published 6 Nov 07 by Signet
It’s possible that this author just isn’t my cuppa tea, or perhaps this wasn’t the best example of her work. Regardless what might have been the problem, I just didn’t like this book.
The first half was decent. I didn’t skip thru much, though it was tempting. However, the last half of the book was a different story. I skimmed several pages of dead dull details about their trip to the present day that just weren’t important to the story.
In addition to random bits of page-filler, it felt like the characters were left incomplete. I didn’t care about either the hero or the heroine, or that they got their HEA. In fact, I nearly developed an active dislike for the heroine for the way she simply thrust the hero into the modern day without a care for how he might react or what he might see.
This is not a book I could recommend.
As a paranormal investigator Kira Bedwell knew that her gift as a far-seer had its advantages. But while touring the ruins of a Scottish castle, she never expected to gaze upon the noble figure of medieval clan chieftain Aidan MacDonald…
And she certainly never thought the irresistible Scot would visit her in her dreams from then on.
Years later, while investigating time portals in Scotland, she sees Aidan in person once more. When she unknowingly steps through a magical gateway, Kira finds herself face-to face with the handsome highlander – back in the fourteenth century!
Aidan is surprised- and delighted – to finally hold the woman he has envisioned for so long. But even as their romance transcends from dreams to reality, they find themselves under attack by Aidan’s enemies. And it will take all of their courage and will for their love to survive beyond time itself…

I haven’t read the second one but I did read the first one and didn’t like it. I really tried, but I just couldn’t like it. I passed it on to someone else and I haven’t heard if they liked it or not. I didn’t plan on getting the second one just because I didn’t like the first one and now I feel I made a wise decision.
Uh oh. I have this in my TBR pile. I hope I liked it better than you did.
I read the first one and it was um, okay I guess but it was a long time ago, anyway. I’m not sure I’ll be reading this one although the cover’s pretty.
The cover has f-all to do with what’s in the book. But the publisher knows what sells, and this cover will sell. It implies that the book is lighthearted fun – not.
I didn’t care for her first book and I was going to give her a second chance with this one, but it doesn’t sound good after reading your review, Gwen! There is just something about her writing that doesn’t strike a chord with me and apparently a lot of other folks.
