BTB and OBE

Best selling author.

Romance novelist extraordinaire.

Barbara Taylor Bradford now has another title to add to her resume: Invested by the Order of the British Empire. Barbara was named an Officer of the British Empire today by Queen Elizabeth II. Barbara joins other notable officers such as Imelda Staunton, Patrick Stewart (Capitan Picard!), and Jimmy Choo. Yep, the guy who designs great sexy shoes.

What exactly is the Order of the British Empire? It’s an honorary award given by the Queen for military and civilians with some of the ranks being in the knighthood (with the title Sir or Dame). Some of those nominated are not British citizens, like Steven Spielberg. And I think that most civilians had something to do with donating a service of some sort to the arts.

I’m not sure if she gets the Dame in front of her name like Judi Dench and Maggie Smith, but a bestselling romance author getting such an honor is great news, so congrats to Barbara. Oh, and her next book, The Heir, comes out October 30. 🙂
