When an unexpected inheritance elevates her family to the ranks of the aristocracy, Amelia Hathaway discovers that tending to her younger sisters and wayward brother was easy compared to navigating the intricacies of the ton. Even more challenging: the attraction she feels for the tall, dark, and dangerously handsome Cam Rohan.
Wealthy beyond most men’s dreams, Cam has tired of society’s petty restrictions and longs to return to his “uncivilized” Gypsy roots. When the delectable Amelia appeals to him for help, he intends to offer only friendship—but intentions are no match for the desire that blindsides them both. But can a man who spurns tradition be tempted into that most time-honored arrangement: marriage? Life in London society is about to get a whole lot hotter….
Lisa Kleypas latest historical novel, Mine Till Midnight has hit the shelves! It is her second novel with St. Martin’s Press and her first historical with her new publisher.
I am beyond delighted to say she will be rejoining us on blog today. Authors personalities really shouldn’t play into if you do or don’t read them. Although it does more often than not and I have to admit, Lisa Kleypas always stuck me as too much.
She was too nice, too caring, too sweet, too personable to be real. So I always figured that in ‘real life’ she was prolly the wicked witch. No one could be THAT sweet, it had to be an act. In fact one reason I almost didn’t go to the signing was, I didn’t want to ‘learn the truth’. (wouldn’t lawson be sad now if I didn’t go)
From start to finish when you meet Lisa you are hit with all of those ‘too’s. She really is THAT nice. Top it off she is a great writer, so it makes it all the better. One thing that has always stuck me is how open Lisa is to hearing what her readers have to say. She doesn’t just ask the questions, she listens. There is no author who will ever make everyone happy and honestly no author should try. But once an author stops listening, really once a person stops, there can be no change, no growth, no learning anything if the only voice you pay attention to is the one in your head.
I truly don’t think we have seen Lisa Kleypas’s best book yet because she is always going to strive to do more. And I would say she is her own worst critic, so there isn’t anything anyone can say to top her. Well and she has that Dodd girl around so really the rest of us are cake.
When I told Lisa that Kristiej was coming to RWA in Dallas and asked her if it was possible for her to meet with us for a few mins… coffee or something…. after all she was the keynote speaker this was about three weeks out and had to have 100000 people pulling on her. I don’t think I finished talking before she was saying of course! We had to meet, we would do lunch, no matter what we would work it out.
And she didn’t mean a quick bite. Lisa Kleypas and Spain treated Jane, KristieJ, and I to a wonderful meal at the hotel she was married at and the girl can pick good wine. And as amazing as that is – just the act of going – of spending time with bloggers, readers, fans or whatever you want to call us – Lisa truly seemed to want to be there. And not only that she went out of her way to engage us all in conversation, to learn more about us. She is truly a fabulous person and if you ever get a chance to met her you should.
Hell even other authors like her *g*.
So you can only imagine how glad I was I liked the book. Really even I might have had guilt about hating it and I never feel guilt about that sort of thing. Of course if I had, when she asked Lisa would have wanted to know my honest opinion. She would have listened and prolly even been truly sorry to disappoint a reader. Of course it might have helped me get that much closer to my goal of getting Lisa Kleypas to say fuck.
What? We all have to have a goal ;).
I know you guys are prolly tired of listening to me gush since Lisa is the second fabulous person we have had on this week. I promise to shut up about the two of them soon *g*. At least for a bit.
Until then if you haven’t bought the book yet, haven’t heard of it or have never read a Lisa Kleypas novel you are in for a treat. You can find two excerpts here and when you run out and buy the book, pick up Devil in Winter too. You can thank me later…
Sybil introduced me to Lisa in Dallas – and she’s absolutely right. Lisa is THAT everything. I lurve all her books, too. Her characters rock.
squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee on Mine Till Midnight!
oooh, what a great treat for a Friday!!! I’m going to have to really discipline myself not to be on here all day instead of working. *sob*
Tonite I have a hot date with Borders, and Mine Till Midnight is on the top of my list. I’ve been waiting patiently for Cam. 🙂
I’m reading this one right now and absolutely loving it, Lisa! Thanks for writing Cam’s story. *sigh*
I loved Sugar Daddy as well. Will you be doing another book tour for Blue-eyed Devil when it releases? If so, I hope you get to come back to Atlanta! I really enjoyed meeting you this past March. 🙂
Like both Sybil and Jane have said (and did you two coordinate this? Both of you having Lisa on the same day *g*) Lisa is truly one of the most genuine people I have ever met. The lunch that the four of us had is truly one of the most memorable special moments of my life. I didn’t talk that much, I was too enthralled listening to you, Jane and Lisa talk. But if I could have floated that day I would have. And what was even more special was that every time I saw Lisa the rest of the conference she would come over and talk to me. Even if I didn’t already love her books, I would buy them all up just because of Lisa alone.
I will be back today. And luckily I have the day off so I don’t have to duck and hide the internet at work *g*
*shakes fist at Kristie(J) for her freedom to be online*
lol. No really…I AM working. Um, doing research…and…stuff. ARG!
Good morning, good morning!
Oh, Syb, you are too kind and I’m glowing. I’m sure I have little sunrays sticking out from my head like the Statue of Liberty. And this before I’ve even finished my first cup of coffee.
That lunch was a gift to ME . . . you and Jane and Kristie were wonderful, witty, charming company, and an oasis in the middle of all that conference madness. And being with Kristie (HELLO KRISTIE DEAR!!!) was a joy. She is a radiant, very strong woman–we could have talked for about three more hours–I felt like we had known each other forever.
As for your goal, Syb . . . heh heh . . . I do say the that word when appropriate. But it loses its power when used indiscriminately. So if you ever catch me in the right circumstances, such as an earthquake or an ill-timed PTA meeting, your chances of hearing my obscenities are pretty good . . .
Hello Beth, Sula and Andrea!
Beth, I loved meeting you too, and THANK YOU, sweetie!
Sula, I hope you enjoy MTM . . . and don’t you love going to Borders? To me it’s the perfect date night with my husband Greg.
Andrea, I would love to see you again–Atlanta was so fun! I have no idea if they’ll send me on another tour. And Cam and I thank you for your kind words *g*
Popping in over lunch break… Yes, Lisa, I do love my dates with Borders. I just wish that everyone else didn’t share that love quite so much because they take all of the chairs! lol. I do have to hand it to my local Borders staff; on many occasions they have gone through a lot of trouble to find a romance novel for me when their online system shows it as being in stock but it’s not on the shelves. Last month, one of the managers hunted all OVER the store and dug through boxes in the stockroom so that I could have my copy of The Serpent Prince. 🙂 Although I’m sure this won’t be the case with MTM. With a scrumptious cover like that, it better be front and center on the new release table or I’m having a little talk with that nice manager. *g*
Lisa, I loved loved loved — Mine Till Midnight. Can you tell us will you be doing stories on the rest of the Hathaway clan?
I have to admit that I have never read one of Lisa’s books. (I know, so sad). I enjoyed reading the excerpts you posted and I think you won me over. Now, I just have to decide on which one to start with. Thanks for all the great scoop.
I fortunate to met Lisa briefly in New Jersey back in March of this year during her Sugar Daddy book tour and wholeheartedly agree with all of the personal accolades everyone has given Lisa. She is a kind and genuine soul and deserves all the words of admiration everyone has given her here! 🙂 (I loved Sugar Daddy, by the way…. and am anxiously awaiting Blue Eyed Devil!)
