Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye by EC Sheedy
Fear…
She knew him only as the dark-eyed man, the one who put her in that dank basement. She was only nine years old when she stared into those eyes and understood that something unspeakable lived in them. Though she was saved at the last minute by an unlikely ally, she’s never forgotten that fear. And fear has not forgotten her…Never… Now the woman who rescued April from that living hell long ago has disappeared, and it’s no accident. Whoever came after her wants April—dead. April has one chance to save her guardian angel before it’s too late. But to do that, she’ll have to break the promise she swore she never would and contact the one man she knows she shouldn’t…
Dies… Joe Worth’s horoscope said he was in for trouble, but the woman sitting in his office is the kind of trouble any guy would welcome—mile-long legs, blond hair, gorgeous face. She’s also scared. Very scared. Protecting people is Joe’s business, but this time it’s also personal: the woman April wants him to find is the mother who abandoned him. He can only say yes, and that could cost him. A stone-cold killer is out for vengeance—a man who will do anything to keep his dark, twisted past behind him. Anything.
Hmmm I don’t know how much of the history we will get here… I know some don’t like to even touch books that have to do with kids being hurt.
I am guess there won’t be much. But I shall ask. We need have an excerpt.
EC Sheedy is an amazing writer. And the reason I have been reading more RS as of late. hmmm which means I can blame her for the book I read the other night *g* (this was Traceless, for those of you playing the home game 🙂 )
Is this the title of a James Bond movie?
Tomorrow Never Dies.
There was an old James Cagney movie with the title KISS TOMORROW GOODBYE. In the book Joe has a poster of this movie on his office wall. And because the villain wants to take away all of April’s tomorrows, the creatives at Brava made the link. I like it . . a lot. Titles are always a crapshoot.
(Oh, and I hate kids being hurt, too . . . hint, hint. But I love it when the bad asses who try to do it, get what they deserve–and more.)
Thanks for putting the cover up, Sybil. As to the excerpt, I’m still working on redoing my web site (Yes I’m the alien child of a tortoise and a snail!). But I’ve got the excerpt ready to roll for day one. Do I get points for that? 🙂
I’m a huge RS fan. The only EC Sheedy I read (I forget the title) was in 1st person. Although I liked that one, I prefer those that aren’t 1st person. I’ll be interested to see what the narrative is in this one. But I don’t suppose it’ll matter – I imagine I’ll end up reading it anyway – I agree she’s an excellent writer.
Hi, Lori. I think you’ve got me confused with someone else. I’ve never written in first person. To be honest, I normally avoid reading anything written from that point of view–but of course, there are always exceptions. (Obviously one being the RS author you read.)
EC (who’s sorry she can’t lay claim to being that excellent writer you remember 🙁 )
Read WITHOUT A WORD back in March and liked it. I’ve been wanting to try another book by her. Got this on my list.
Well, cool beans! Then I know I remember that I enjoyed your book 🙂 I read so much RS, that I must have mixed it up with another book. That definitely seals the deal then LOL. Thanks!
Hi Sybil
I’ve been wanting to try RS and this one looks good. Are there any other good authors you would recommend? (Not too gruesome and with a strong romantic element)
You can’t go wrong with any EC Sheedy. Her last book , Without A Word was grand as well. Alison Kent’s SG-5 series (also Brava) starts with The Bane Affair fits what you want to a tee me think.
Shannon McKenna is great, her most recent is Edge of Midnight and Lora Leigh’s SEALs, Dangerous Games. Pamela Clare has a RS series you should look at and we will have a review up soon for Carla Cassidy’s lastest Paint it Red.
I didn’t read it but Connie enjoyed. And of course Linda Howard, Nora Roberts and Suz Brockmann are always good. I would suggest staying away from the new Elizabeth Lowell cuz they seem to be sexless now and that sucks. Sez I.
I have never read EC Sheedy. I confess, this is really the only genre where I want the romance to be hot to sizzling when I read. I think its mostly because before the internet, I was grabbing bestsellers at the library and books others spoke of and the straight suspense in them always had something missing for me. Then when I read a hot Romance Suspense, then it was what was missing in the stories. The strong tension is not enough, it needs to come to conclusion. I guess cuz I want the romance to be a part within the suspense and be a big part along with a good suspense. So with all that, does she have a romance as I described up there? Some authors I like are Linda Howard’s earlier ones, like DREAM MAN, Shannon McKenna’s earlier ones like BEHIND CLOSES DOORS (I haven’t read her recent ones)…as you can see I don’t read much Romance Suspense, or rather find more that meets the above. Would love the feedback on EC Sheedy!
