Gwen’s review of Wild Wild West by Charlene Teglia
Contemporary erotic romance published 7 Aug 07 by St. Martin’s Griffin
This erotic romance is set in modern-day Missoula, Montana. It tells of how three women fall in love with three cowboys. Teglia weaves the three stories together, but they’re all told with very different voices. And isn’t this cover pretty? Goes so well with Sybil’s blog, doncha think?
Here’s the book blurb:
In one of the most searingly erotic novels ever penned, Charlene Teglia breaches uncharted territory. But reader beware: this tale is hotter than hell. The faint of heart should turn back now…
Three sexy city girls from Seattle are enjoying a night out at a chic coffee house in downtown Missoula, Montana, the heart of the old West. When a gang of cowboys mosey in looking for trouble, they find trouble of the best kind… and these boys are primed and ready to ride.  There’s Gabe, the hard-bodied rancher with a wicked imagination. Chet, the rodeo cowboy who’s charmed the pants off more than a few country girls and vows to remain a bachelor for life. And Reuben, the former Army ranger with a taste for edgy sexual games. As the couples embark on a scorching night of passion and play, they experience the most exquisite pleasure—and discover kinky new thrills they never dared to imagine. Because when it comes to knocking boots, cowboys do it best…ÂRead an excerpt.
The first story, A Man’s Word Is His Bondage, is Gabe’s and Willow’s.  It has  some light bondage elements and a little bit of a far-fetched premise. She’s in his bed, and ropes, within four hours of meeting him. Cute story, but Willow’s a hussy.
The second story, Ready to Play, is Jolie’s and Chet’s. It has some light exhibitionist elements and, for me, is the hottest of the three stories. This was a very believable love story and was very fun to read. I LOVED the ending. I’m never going to think a butterfly is an effeminate tattoo again.
The third story, Reuben’s Rules, is Reuben’s and Laura’s. It has some light BDSM elements. I liked this story the least of the three. It was a nice love story, but it felt like the BDSM was unnecessary and was just there for some titillation. That bothers me when something like that is used so casually.
I liked this book, though it does have a couple of rough spots. It was a quick, fun read and doesn’t have any angst or trauma to wade thru. A good summer read.
Grade: B-
Oh I liked this much more than you did. I may have to reread it as I can’t for the life of me remember the end of the second story.
Of course I am suppose to be doing other reading. Just started something I have no business reading right now, as it doesn’t come out until January. And have been od’ing on ward and quinn this week. WHAT? Doesn’t J.R. Ward and Julia Quinn seem like the perfect fit?
oh and reviews… need to do that… and contests… Quinn and liz c still need winners. And need to schedule the guest day for rice and mckade.
ACK! Where was I? oh yes I liked this book more than you did ;). I think one thing I really liked was it was very believable. It stories each have a high heat factor without a whole hella lot of kink for kink sake. But a reread would be fun *g*.
Wow, didn’t know you were reading this. Thanks for taking the time to read Wild Wild West and share your thoughts, Gwen. Sybil, not surprised you liked it better; there’s a ducky! *ggg*
Charlene – I forgot about the duck! Those were good scenes. I want me a Chet.
Syb – think balloons and a cowboy on the bed wearing nuthin’ but his hat. Then you should remember the ending of the second story.
but Willow’s a hussy
Ya know it takes two to tango? *g*
Char hon we have had the book long enough for me to read it and give the ARC to gwen. Who knows one day you could get like two reviews out of us *g*.
But for the record I have mentioned the book once or twice on blog and god knows how many times at RWA. So that should count for something.
KarenS I would like you to note I didn’t say she was a hussy. I recall rather liking her. shut up gwen 😛
Sybil, that counts for a lot! Thank you. And I thought Willow was creative and open-minded. *g*
Reuben and Laura’s story was my personal favorite of the three and to me there was nothing casual about it. But D/s is subjective and in the eye of the beholder, like everything else!
Who said being a hussy was a bad thing? 🙂
