Our first Harlequin Historical author just happens to be one of my most favorite evah. Cheryl St. John has written some of the best historicals that harlequin has seen.
Sweet Annie, The Doctor’s Wife, Joe’s Wife, Prairie Wife and His Secondhand Wife all seem to fight for the number one spot depending on if I am reading it at the time or not. She can revisit characters she has created, as she does in The Preacher’s Daughter without losing any of the quailty or emotion found in the prior book.
Not only has she written two of my favorite Montana Maverick books (Gunslinger’s Bride and the recent The Bounty Hunter), she keeps a list of the series up on her site. It has spanned from Harlequin Historical to Silhouette Special Edition and it’s own special series to Harlequin Special Anthologies.
And she is also responsible for me picking up my first SSE, so my category downfall can be laid at her feet *g*. Cheryl St. John is the first author who springs to my mind when I think of Harlequin Historical and always one of the first I recommend. If you have never tried one, I strongly suggest looking for one of the titles in this post. Or checking out her backlist, although personally I wouldn’t start with Badlands Bride or Saint or Sinner. Just saying *g*.
And I have never read her first book, in fact I have to say I do not even own Rain Shadow and still have Heaven Can Wait and The Mistaken Widow to be read. Anyone read them yet? What are your favorites?
I still have her older titles in the TBR, but for me her best book (so far) has been Prairie Wife – a deeply emotional marriage-in-trouble story. And for the record, I normally don’t do marriage-in-trouble stories. They just aren’t my thing. But that one just about ripped my heart out. So, so, so good!
Cheryl’s books are really good. I have quite a few of them and have enjoyed them all. I read The Doctor’s Wife and was thrilled to read more about the characters from that book when I read The Preacher’s Daughter! Cheryl is one of my favorite authors!
I really enjoy Cheryl’s books as well
My favorite Cheryl StJohn book?…….The one I am currently reading. I think that I have read them all and was able to find “The Preacher’s Wife” before June 1 so am now waiting for the next. Have to admit that I am an impatient reader and am always checking for the next one. Keep it up, Cheryl!
Yet another author I haven’t read any books from…..sigh.
I’ve never read Cheryl St. John, but I definitely will start. Her books sound really wonderful and different than the other romance books out there! I like to mix up what I read (time travel, medieval, etc.), and this looks like stories I could definitely get into!!!
I’ve read Rain Shadow and Heaven Can Wait and loved them. I think my very fave though is Joe’s Wife. I think I have 2 copies of it even.
I’m also new to Cheryl St. John’s books, but now that I’ve been introduced to her books, I’ll be on the lookout for her books.
I’m delighted to discover all the comments this evening! I recognize a few names and am tickled to meet new readers. This beats a trip to my PO box today, which held a bundle of reader mail, including two letters from inmates. One wants to be my pen pal, the other requested a “relationship.” My day is complete. LOL
Can’t wait to see what the rest of the week brings.
LOL Cheryl! I once heard Teresa Medeiros at a workshop say that an author knows she’s “made it” when she starts getting fan mail from prison…..
LOL It’s good to hear that you have made it! Of course, we never doubted that!
If you haven’t read her newest book The Preachers Daughter, you should. The heroine knows what she wants and goes after it without being pushy or annoying.
I am one of Cheryl’s many avid readers! I recommend her books all the time…and my favorite book is always the newest book out 🙂
I have been reading Cheryl’s books for a while and have just picked up her back list. I just finished Badlands Bride. It was wonderful! One of the best books I have ever read. So exciting!
Hey, guys, thanks for all the awesome comments!
My favorite is usually the one I’m working on at the moment. But truly, I do have a few favorites.
Ruthann, I has SO much fun writing Badlands Bride. I had picked out that title years before I ever thought up a story to go with it, btw.
I find that the Harlequin Historicals are harder to find now. They are not available at K-mart or Walmart, where I usually pick up my books.
