This is a short ebook about an author (shock and gasp, I know) who is dodging an ex-boyfriend and is being protected by a hunky Marshal (I know, more shock).  It takes place in modern day Houston and somewhere in the Texas Hill Country.

And let’s see if we can make the blurb hit the right place in the post.

Here’s the book blurb:

Threats from an escaped murderer send novelist Amy Bartlett into the protective custody — and sexy arms — of Deputy Marshal Jacob Kissman. Although fiercely independent, Amy accepts asylum at Jacob’s family ranch deep in the Texas Hill Country…but only until the man she testified against is caught.Having secretly guarded her for weeks, Jacob is in love with Amy. Getting her alone at his isolated ranch is his dream come true. Seducing a witness is against the rules but she won’t be a witness forever. Once the killer is captured, Jacob intends to make Amy his…and now is the time to start trying.

Heeding the warning of a psychologist friend, Amy resists Jacob’s seduction. A female rescue fantasy — where a woman falls for the man who saves her from danger — is no basis for a relationship. But is it fantasy or something more that sparks erotic dreams featuring the handsome deputy? Jacob’s charm and the Texas moon conspire to stoke the fire inside her until Amy does more than surrender her body. She falls in love with Jacob. But with the killer closing in, will she live long enough to let him know?

Before I “break bad” on this short book, let me just say that this writer shows promise.  There was some problem with pacing and repetition, but the book wasn’t awful.  I think Ms Thackston waited too long for the heroine to accept and act on her feelings for the hero – it seemed rushed at that point.  And I SOOO didn’t think a marshal would be thinking about how hard his cock was getting while trying to dodge a crazed gunman.  Nope – not buying it.  Other than that, it was readable.

Now for what I really didn’t like.  Is there not another original concept out there in ebook land?!?!  They’re all running together to me like a really bad Jackson Pollock knock-off.  All the heroines seem to be authors.  All the heroes seem to be law-enforcement types.  They all seem to be placed in modern day.  There’s always some crazy chasing one or more of them.  Hero/heroine resists the attraction until they just can’t deny it any longer.  Yawn. YAWN.  YAWN!

Please try something new, authors!
