Who knows how much is true and how much is spin. But there you go… sucks though she is being blamed for shit that happened when she hasn’t even taken over yet. And I am guessing she has learned what not to post to 200 people. Private list or not… many people don’t give a shit about that something to always remember before you hit send.

Putting all the other issues and comments aside other than Gail’s personal issues: Yes it is very sad that what was posted on a private author loop about her personal issues where it is assumed that those things stay private unless permission granted or she herself put it out publicly, was sent out to anyone else, and even sad that those then posting publicly couldn’t have had the decency to remove that part of that private email. Yes, you do have to be careful what you post anywhere, even on private loops where you assume everyone knows its private among that group only.
Even those of us who are only readers and not involved in the industry belonging to small private reader loops commiserate and console each other when having personal issues, just to vent or support each other, and trust all of our members not to go posting those types of things all around for others to see, or at least presume they won’t. Or maybe, we should watch what we post on some of those, too.
Too bad you and others made it all about the Smart Bitches’ decision to post the message and not about the *CONTENT OF THE MESSAGE*, which is only maybe about a billion times more important to any writer thinking of submitting her work to the press.
Next time address the real problem – the fact that writers are being ripped off by an irresponsible and possibly financially insolvent publisher – and ignore the sideshows that only serve to make you feel smug about yourself.
As I said Blurgle… I plan to post more on the issue of privacy later and MY VIEW. Something I completely admit many, many, many people don’t agree with….
The email itself was news but there are ways to report on it without posting private posts. Is it illegal? No. But I think it is tacky as shit.
So… as long as you think it is ‘news’ anything goes… got it. Make note – don’t email blurgle. In fact I think anything you post privately or publically can come back to bite you in the ass because many people can’t be trusted and don’t give a fuck – if it is good for them whatever.
For me, I think emails not sent TO me but privately to others should NEVER be reposted in a public forum. I don’t care if there were 2000 people on the list or 2 – it is a private list. I was not a member. Even if I had thought about it (which I didn’t) I wouldn’t have posted it. I have my own words.
The fact the numerous people did have it and DIDN’T post it speaks volumes. The message though? Yes it is news. Go check out dear author, they have information from all sides oddly enough without nary a private email posted.
