consumedConsumed by Moira McTark (who needs to have her author info page done at samhain)

The only thing stronger than Amber Grayson and Brian Matther’s loathing for each other, is their all consuming lust.

Amber Grayson’s dates never seem to measure up. That is, until Brian Matthers—the boy from high school who sparked such intense longing in her, no other man could compare—returns to her life.

When Amber and Brian come together, their powerful chemistry overwhelms them both, leading them to fall hard and fast. But betrayals are easy to believe when things seem too good to be true, and the romance ends as fast as it starts.

Only Brian and Amber have had a taste of the heat between them, and a taste isn’t nearly enough. When the two come together, tempers flare and barbs fly, and Brian quickly discovers that the only thing more intense than Amber’s wrath is her passion.

Embarking on a relationship that is strictly sexual and gratifies their most torrid fantasies, they soon find that abiding by the unspoken rule of strictly sex proves more challenging than either of them expected.

This book has a horrid cheesy cover and a bad summary. In fact I completely past it over after reading the summary thinking, oh yay another I love you, I hate you, lets fuck, I still hate you plot. Then while looking for other books to buy because all I had in my cart was about 3 bucks… I read the excerpt.

I liked the authors writing and was leaning toward getting it when I hit this line.

“Brian, you’ll have to excuse me, I had such a terrible crush on you in high school. I’m standing here making a complete jackass out of myself.”

I was hooked and read the book right away.

Genre: Contemporary Romance

The Good: Amber and Brian are both honest characters that play off each other well, as well as with each other *g*. So it makes the idea a ‘big mis’ (the huge wall that stands in their way for most of the story) seem like it would be unbelievable. But McTark handles it well. Brian is a jackass and Amber tries to set him straight. After he is more of a jackass – they spend most of their time away from each other. And when they are together, they don’t waste too much time on talking.

It is sex for sex’s sake… amazing sex… at least that is what they both tell themselves… as it slowly tears them up until they just can’t do it anymore.

And the guys – talk like guys. Of course tara is the expert on this *g*. But I liked them. The friends were friends and not just set up for the next book.

The Bad: Eric – the stoopid exboyfriend. Amber is way too smart to fall for the shit she does. We will just say it is because she is in lurve and suffering a broken heart. But all in all his character didn’t work for me.

The Verdict: Read it! In a world over ran by the paranormal, it is nice to see pretty solid contemporary novel. Add in it is by a debut author (I think) and it is a must read. And Samhain’s prices rock for debut books and right now you can pick this up for $3.50. Can’t beat that. Uh I have no clue how long that lasts… guess I should go check.

Next no clue what Moira has coming out next, when it comes out or who the publisher is. She needs to update her website or blog, sez I.
