All the ones I have randomly looked at say first. And I know they aren’t all apart of the first print run.

It’s getter hard to tell these days. There’s usually a number line/sequence and if the “1” is missing, your looking at second print run. It’s quite a complicated issue, really. Some books may state “First Edition” but it’s a second print run. I almost always look for a number sequence and if the 1 is missing, it may not be a first edition.
I stand corrected if there are other ways to discern first edition vs. second, third…etc. Wish they would all state First edition.

Another is that different pubs do it different ways. Some may have the 1, but if it doesn’t say First Edition somewhere on it, then it’s not first run. Was at work trying to figure this out the other week with a hardback of George RR Martin’s first book.

Not stating that it’s not a first edition doesn’t necessarily mean that it isn’t, which is why I say it’s difficult to tell these days. More than likely, your right, it’s not but if it’s the only copy available in hardcover, then it would be a unofficial, “first run”.
I try to look at pub year too to help discern. Tricky business, that.

I don’t know the answer, but too is this right, the difference between a publisher edition and a bookclub edition is that the publisher edition has the book price in it, right?
