Shadowing Ivy by Janelle Taylor
Review by Connie
Some Secrets Are Shocking
When New Jersey police officer Ivy Sedgwick’s fiancé bolts out of the church on their wedding day, she’s stunned. Declan loves her—doesn’t he? Ivy’s late father, a man she hardly knew, disapproved of the match, but Ivy never knew why—until a homicide detective named Griffin Fargo shows up. The man Ivy knew as Declan is really someone else—and “Declan” was just one of the aliases the police believe he used when he duped a string of other “fiancées” for their money…
Other Secrets Are Deadly…
Breaking the news to Ivy is one of the hardest things Griffin has ever done, but he needs her to help him track down Declan before he strikes again. The trouble is, Griffin wants her, too. Protecting her becomes all too personal to Griffin, especially as the clues lead them to new suspects. With danger around every corner, all Griffin wants is to close the case—so he can convince Ivy that her future, and her heart, belong to him.
Shadowing Ivy is a pretty average romance with the suspense part of the plot being a touch above average.
Ivy Sedgwick is an inconsistant character. We start the book with her being shocked the man who just left her at the alter was a bad guy. And for a cop, needing to be told she totally missed Declan’s true nature is a knock to her faith in her own judgement. Had she really been in love with a killer?
But this loses some of its punch by how quickly she moves on. I admit I am a little old fashion but Ivy fell into another relationship pretty easy. And for two professionals, they get involved personally far too fast. Griffin really seems to get far too close to everyone in his case, which knocks points off for me.
Overall the book does keep you guessing about the missing fiancé, if the speed doesn’t bother you the romance is nice and the dysfunctional family mends some of their fences. It isn’t a great book but it is no where near a bad book. And while I read it I liked it but in the end Shadowing Ivy is very forgettable.
Grade: C –
This sounds like an interesting book. It’s been years since I’ve read anything by Taylor. I’ll have to pick this one up.
