REVIEW: His Secondhand Wife by Cheryl St.John

October 30, 2008

Book CoverShannon C.'s review of His Secondhand Wife by Cheryl St.John
Historical western romance published by Harlequin 1 Jul 05

I think it was Super Wendy that first told me about Cheryl St.John. I know that Sybil adores her, and after a run of particularly "meh" western romances, I picked this book off the TBR pile. Whoever recommended the book certainly didn't steer me wrong, and I'm going to be eagerly reading more of Ms. St.John's backlist as soon as possible. Read more

REVIEW: A Desperate Journey by Debra Parmley

October 16, 2008

Book Cover Shannon C.'s review of A Desperate Journey by Debra Parmley
Historical western romance eBook released by Samhain Publishing
22 Jul 08

The premise of this book is fascinating. A woman goes on a journey to recover her son, who has been kidnapped, and meets a dark, mysterious man who may or may not have her best interests at heart. Together they weather storms, both literal and figurative, and find happiness. Unfortunately, in A Desperate Journey, the premise did not hold up very well and I was left with a mediocre romance featuring a heroine I began to actively dislike.  Read more

REVIEW: Tied Up, Tied Down by Lorelei James

September 22, 2008

Book CoverSandy M's review of Tied Up, Tied Down (Rough Riders, Book 4) by Lorelei James
Contemporary Western Erotic Romance eBook released by Samhain 8 Jul 08

I know I received some flack - hell, it was a lot of flack! -- on my review of Ms. James' previous book in this series, Cowgirl Up and Ride, because I dared to look past the gritty, ugly, but important, parts of the book to get to the overall picture she paints for the McKay family in that story.  It was all necessary and very well done, as far as I'm concerned, and in this book she's once again given Rough Rider fans a story to dig their teeth into and sigh, but this time it's done with some lightheartedness and fun and only a tad of angst and hardship. Review: The Tribute by Beth Williamson

July 21, 2008

The TributeSandy M's review of The Tribute (Malloy Family, Book 6) by Beth Williamson
Historical Western Romance published by Samhain 25 Dec 07

I've had Ms. Williamson's Malloy Family books on my wishlist for quite a long time. I delayed purchasing them and now I've got six more of those Malloy siblings to catch up with, but I'm looking forward to it because they are a tight-knit family who are each passionate and independent in their own way. That's one of the things that's keeping me on track to read the rest of this series - the family aspect of these books. On top of that, they're heartfelt, sexy, fun, and serious when called for. Review: Lawless by Emma Wildes

June 26, 2008

Book CoverShannon C.'s review of Lawless by Emma Wildes
Historical western erotic romance ebook published 1 Apr 08 by Samhain Publishing

I love westerns, and I don't even really have a problem with violence in my books, so Lawless looked interesting to me. Bad-boy hero? Nothing sexier. Heroine who probably wouldn't drive me crazy? I am so there. And at first, I loved the book. Lawless started out extremely well, with an action scene that got me immediately hooked on the story and the characters. Unfortunately, the early promise of that scene quickly fizzled, and it took me much longer than it should have to actually finish. And this is one of Samhain's shorter novels.
