Historical Romance released by Ballantine 24 Jun 08
This is one in the many Boscastle family stories. I remember reading a couple of the first of the series, so it was like stepping into a Soap Opera after a year or so absence. There are characters there that I recognize and a new set for the romance to come along. Throw in some intrigue, a thief in London and a couple of other things and it plays well into Hunter's Boscastle family. Read more

I don't know what it is, but I have a thing for prince stories. Maybe it's my own unwise crush on Prince William or love of happily ever after fairy tales, but a prince story can usually drag me in. This book has not one, not two, but three sexy princes who have sworn off commitment to be playboys and run away from love. A friend of theirs, Prince Hugo, has just gotten married and in the international spotlight Zain, Rafael and Santos are next.

This is the first book in the Notorious Gentelmen series by Enoch. For the sake of ease and just to assume something, the series is about three good friends who spent four years fighting together as officers in Spain against the French. Captains Phineas Bromley and Sullivan James Waring and Major Lord Bramwell Lowry Johns are very close friends, but two bullets in Sullivan's shoulder and his mother's death send him back to England with Lord Bram in tow. Phin is still fighting it out in Spain. And so the story begins.

I hadn't really planned on reviewing this book. I'd just picked it up between reading some heavy historicals to have something kind of light and contemporary to read. I hadn't expected the charm and the wry humor that I got with this book. I've only read one other book by Gibson and wasn't wowed by her, but I'd heard good things about this one, so I thought I'd try it out. Plus, I'm a sucker for a sports book and this one covers something that I love, which is football, and know really well, which is Texas high school football. Read more

Historical romance released by Avon 24 Jun 08
For anyone who loves a cross-dressing romance, this is a story you have to read. Following the pattern of Twelfth Night, it follows the story of Harriet, the Duchess of Berrow, at a house party after Christmas at the house of Lord Strange. Lord Strange had been mentioned before in this series when Jemma, the Duchess of Beaumont, bought a chess piece that he had sold. Wit, intelligence and passions abound in the tale and we also get more time with the Duke of Villiers.

Historical romance released by Berkley Sensation 3 Jun 08
This book has an interesting premise, though one usually attached to some other type of paranormal storyline. Instead of vampires or werewolves, there are a strange group of people who can become invisible. What follows, of course, is the idea that if you could be invisible, what would you do? How would the world treat you if you were different in the way that you disappeared in the moonlight? Or at least I think that's where MacMeans was going with this one. Sometimes it was hard to tell. The cover to the books is rather striking though. Read more

Lawson's review of Let the Night Begin (Brotherhood of the Blood, Book 4) by Kathryn Smith
Historical romance released by Avon 24 Jun 08
When I read Taken by the Night, I have to admit that Saint was a wonderful hero, but I didn't like Ivy too much. What intrigued me, though, was the mention of Reign and is estranged wife and I really wanted to read their story. Reunion stories are something that I like, and the short mention in Taken by the Night was great. Not that I've read the first two in the series. . .hmm. . . I do have the first one around here, I'll have to make time to get to it.

I really enjoyed Miles' first book, Spirited Away. It was cute, light and sweet. I was far less impressed with her second book, Into Thin Air. I wasn't too excited when Sybil gave me this one because the last one kinda made me not want to read anything else by this author. But I figured, I'd give it a try and see if the last book was just a sophomore slump and I'd enjoy this one.

Historical romance released by Harlequin Historical 1 May 08
I have to admit that I've never actually read a Harlequin Historical. For whatever reason I've just never picked one up. Even when Sybil threw one at me. I was rather excited that this month's feature was Harlequin Historicals, so maybe I could finally start reading them. It's rather odd though that the first one I read is about Vikings. I had a bad experience with a Viking romance some years ago and haven't really liked them since. I think Michelle Styles has made me change my mind about that though.

Lawson's review of Dark Obsession (A Novel of Blackheath Moor) by Allison Chase
Historical romance released by Signet Eclipse 6 May 08
Set to be a moody Gothic romance, Dark Obsession sounded like a good story. Deep passions, escape from scandal and a possibly haunted house out on the moors in Cornwall. Add in a mystery of how someone dies and the appearance of a ghostly helper, Gothic is something this story is packed with. Unfortunately, the dark passions it strives for and the players of the piece end up more temperamental that brooding and mysterious. Maybe it's trying to hard to be Wuthering Heights.
