I'm sitting here in my living room typing this up and trying to recover from my fabulous weekend spent in West Manchester, Ohio at the Lori Foster and Dianne Castell Reader/Writer Get Together. This was the 4th year for the event, my first and it brought together over 250 authors (published and epub), readers, future writers, editors and publishers. The event also raised money for the Conductive School of Learning, the Animal Adoption Foundation and our troops serving overseas.

The Power of Love isn't at all what I thought it would be. Novellas are hard to do well. Make it a short story and it more often than not doesn't work for me. Add in the awesome fact the author's proceeds go to The YMCA Battered Women's Shelter of Cincinnati - well I was expecting more women's fiction than romance. I was very wrong.

The request for a review of this book that I got did not come in the traditional form, where someone sends a politely worded e-mail asking if we're ever going to read and review a favorite book. No, when I was asked to read this book, my friend Jaliya used the words "you" and "have to read this book right now or else I'll come down there and beat you" in the same sentence. And given the plot, which happens to feature things I like, namely a slightly Southern Gothic atmosphere as well as a touch of the paranormal I knew that Jaliya wouldn't have to twist my arm very hard.
