This book is compellingly grim and I really didn't want to like it. I'm very conflicted about the world it embodies. Technically, the writing is very proficient. Thematically, the book hits on all my "I don't know about this" buttons. This is the second of this series I've read, the first being a short story in Eternal Lover (reviewed here).
