REVIEW: From Friend to Father by Tracy Wolff

book cover Wendy the Super Librarian‘s review of From Friend to Father by Tracy Wolff
Contemporary romance released by Harlequin SuperRomance 9 Jun 09

When I read Tracy Wolff’s debut Harlequin SuperRomance late last year I had some issues with the heroine. Now, with this second book for SuperRomance, I find myself having issues with the hero. I’m thinking by the time her third SuperRomance comes out that I’m going to love the hero and heroine so much that I’m going to want to have a menage a trois with them. read more…

REVIEW: The Greek’s Convenient Mistress by Annie West

Book CoverLynne Connolly’s review of The Greek’s Convenient Mistress by Annie West
Contemporary Romance released by Harlequin Presents 1 Jun 09

Annie West is one of my favourite HMB authors because she is all about the emotion. The Big Misunderstandings, Secret Babies and other tropes that are often used to prolong the plot in other Modern/Presents books play little part in hers, or if she uses them, she makes them work. She never forgets that what brings the hero and heroine together in her books is the emotion.

REVIEW: Surrender to the Playboy Sheikh by Kate Hardy

Book CoverLynne Connolly‘s review of Surrender to the Playboy Sheikh by Kate Hardy
Contemporary romance released by Harlequin Presents 1 Jul 09

If anyone thinks that HMB books are churned out with next to no effort from the writer – this is one of the best examples against this argument that I’ve read, and certainly the best this year.  Kate Hardy wrote the award winning Breakfast At Giovanni’s which by the time it left the UK Modern line and moved to the US Present line became In Bed With Her Italian Boss. So I ask you, which title do you prefer? I can definitely recommend this one as well.  read more…

REVIEW: Pulling The Trigger by Julie Miller

Book Cover Wendy the Super Librarian‘s review of Pulling The Trigger (Kenner County Crime Unit Series) by Julie Miller
Contemporary romantic suspense released by Harlequin Intrigue 9 Jun 09

Harlequin is my last hold-out for impulse buys. Shorter page counts at a lower price make me more open to navigating uncharted waters. I’ve discovered a lot of great new-to-me writers this way, but I’ve also had my fair share of duds. While I would hardly classify Julie Miller’s latest as a dud, I must have been asleep at the wheel when I purchased it because I failed to notice the “Kenner County Crime Unit” series logo smack in the middle of the front cover. For those not familiar with the previous books in this multi-author series, the beginning of Pulling The Trigger is a bit of bumpy ride. However, those readers willing to stick with it will be rewarded with a page-turning cat-and-mouse style suspense story. read more…

REVIEW: Pleasured By the Secret Millionaire by Natalie Anderson

Book Cover Wendy the Super Librarian‘s review of Pleasured By The Secret Millionaire by Natalie Anderson
Contemporary romance released by Harlequin Presents 1 Jun 09

I tend to be a bit impulsive when selecting Harlequins to read, mostly going by back cover descriptions and authors who, over time, have proven to be consistent for me. I’ll be honest, the back cover copy on most Harlequin Presents leaves me fairly cold. But Natalie Anderson’s latest was different. When I was purchasing June titles, the back cover description for this book actually sounded interesting to me. Also, I’ll admit, I was intrigued by the “millionaire” hero. Only a millionaire? Not a billionaire or a tycoon? Wow. The current state of the economy is even worse that I thought. read more…

REVIEW: A Hint of Wicked by Jennifer Haymore

A Hint of WickedSandy M’s review of A Hint of Wicked by Jennifer Haymore
Historical Romance published by Forever 1 Jun 09

After hearing so much about this book, I did hope that it would live up to the hype going around the internet.  It definitely did that and so much more. Ms. Haymore does a beautiful job of interweaving the lives of three characters you can’t help but like and sympathize with when fate takes an ugly and tragic turn, turning their lives into a living nightmare where before nothing but love had been between them.

REVIEW: Faeries Gone Wild by Davidson, Greiman, Hauf, and Logan

Book Cover Gwen’s review of Faeries Gone Wild by MaryJanice Davidson, Lois Greiman, Michele Hauf, and Leandra Logan (no author site)
Contemporary paranormal romance anthology released by St. Martin’s 2 Jun 09

This was a cute anthology and you’ll see me use the word “cute” a lot in this review.  All stories are placed in the modern world, have romances, and faeries are the protagonists.  A couple of them have some suspense elements, but the stories are really quite lighthearted in nature.  Read on to see which of these romps was rompier than the others… read more…

REVIEW: How to Score by Robin Wells

Book Cover Lawson’s review of How to Score by Robin Wells
Contemporary romance released by Grand Central 1 Jun 09

To take a break from the historicals Sybil gave me, I got this one. I’d read Wells’ Between the Sheets, though this is in no way a sequel or connected. While series can be fun to see characters grow over a few books, meeting new characters and being in different settings is great from time to time from an author. There are some slapstick moments and some of the funnah, so those of you who like a cute comedy, I’m sure you’ll be interested in this one. read more…
