REVIEW: Unholy Ghosts by Stacia Kane

Book CoverLiviania’s review of Unholy Ghosts (Downside Ghosts, Book 1) by Stacia Kane
Urban fantasy released by Del Rey 25 May 2010

Sybil was offering me a variety of books to review and quickly realizing I’ll say yes to almost anything.  The hook for Unholy Ghosts was the controversy over the main character’s drug use.  There’s nothing I love more than being able to take a specific side in an argument.

RomCon: A Reader’s Impression

Limecellos Icon My thoughts on RomCon are all over the place. If you want an extremely detailed minute by minute playbook, this is not where you’ll get that. RomCon? Well, I’d do it again. I’ve never been to any conferences/conventions before 2010, but this year I’ve hit up RT, Lori Foster’s get together, and now RomCon. I think of the three, RomCon was my favorite. It just has more. (I really enjoyed Lori Foster’s get together, and I have to say RT was my least favorite.) read more…

REVIEW: Some Like It Scott by Donna Kauffman

Book Cover LauraJ’s review of Some Like it Scot byDonna Kauffman
Contemporary Romance published by Brava 1 Jun 10

I’m not one for surprises. I like to know what is going to happen (books/movies/Christmas) and really if someone spoils something for me, I don’t care (I won’t however, spoil ending for others). I read the end of books first (not this one, though. E-readers make it a bit harder). So it caught me totally off guard when I found out that Ms. Kauffman had released a book with a Scottish Hero, in a kilt no less. I LOVED her earlier books Bad Boys in Kilts and The Great Scot. The books were fun, sexy and set in a location that I really, really want to visit someday. So after finding out that this book was coming out (only days before its release), I pre-ordered for my Nook and downloaded right before going on vacation. Once I started reading I found I couldn’t wait to get out of the Disney parks and back to our resort so I could sit on our balcony and read.

The myth of the League of the Blade continues with the brother of Adam from Taken and Seduced in this story. The second in the Raised by the Blade trilogy has Robert Hilliard traipsing about Medieval England to prove himself to the League. The third will no doubt follow the youngest Hilliard brother.

REVIEW: Web of Lies by Jennifer Estep

Book CoverLiviania’s review of Web of Lies (Elemental Assassin, Book 2) by Jennifer Estep
Urban Fantasy released by Pocket 25 May 2010

Gin Blanco, assassin and restaurateur, returns in the second Elemental Assassin novel.  Based on the end of Spider’s Bite, I expected most of the book to focus on the series arc.  Instead, Web of Lies is a standalone adventure that introduces another love interest for Gin.  We do learn a little bit about Gin’s past as she helps a girl and her grandfather keep their family store from a man willing to murder them for their land.  (Jennifer Estep appears to have adapted a Western plot for an urban fantasy.  In my mind, it works.)

REVIEW: The Fire Lord’s Lover by Kathryne Kennedy

Book CoverSandy M’s review of The Fire Lord’s Lover (Elven Lords, Book 1) by Kathryne Kennedy
Paranormal Romance published by Sourcebooks Casablanca 6 Jul 10

Kathryne Kennedy has done it again. With the fate of her Relics of Merlin series unknown due to her move to Sourcebooks, I lamented the loss of a such a terrific series. Ms. Kennedy is one of those authors who gives a reader something different all the way around in her books. So getting into a new series when you’ve loved a previous one so well, you’re a little hesitant starting out. This author proves she’s got what it takes to magically weave a story that will leave you spellbound.

REVIEW: The Search by Nora Roberts

Book CoverLawson’s review of The Search by Nora Roberts
Romantic suspense released by Putnam 06 Jul 10

Romantic suspense is one thing that I’m not terribly fond of. I do love Nora Roberts’ suspense though, because the story always takes center stage, no matter what elements are added to the plot. The Search is right up my alley with lots of great story and a little suspense added in. The extra bit in this one is the heroine is a dog trainer and also runs a Search and Rescue team.

REVIEW: The Secretary’s Bossman Bargain by Red Garnier

book cover Limecello’s review of The Secretary’s Bossman Bargain by Red Garnier
Contemporary romance released by Silhouette Desire 13 Jul 10

A number of things made me decide to read this book. First of all, I adore Silhouette Desire and Harlequin Blaze books. They’re hands down my favorite category lines. Next, I’ve been meaning to try something written by Red Garnier for a while. Someone also recommended it to me, but it didn’t even matter, because I’d already bought it based on the premise. I’m a big sucker for secretary-boss romances. I do feel the need to state how much I dislike the title. read more…
