REVIEW: Rule Breaker by Lora Leigh

Book Cover

Veena’s review of Rule Breaker (Breeds, Book 29) by Lora Leigh
Paranormal Romance published by Berkley 04 Feb 14

This story picks up from where the last one left off. The breeds are still in Wild Rock, Arizona, where Jonas is temporarily headquartered as he searches for a cure for his daughter Amber. I like how the author kicks off the story by starting with a past that was ten years ago when a young girl was saved from being raped by council enforcers in the desert. There is an instant spark of connection between Rule and Gypsy, and yet neither one realizes what it means. Rule steadfastly maintains that he will never mate, yet he visits Wild Rock every year to check up on the young girl who has left an indelible impression on his soul. Fast forward to today and they’re both adults now.  All Rule wants is to scratch an itch that’s been bugging him for a long time. It’s definitely not the mating bond, because there are no symptoms. Poor Rule!!!  So determined to never mate and be vulnerable. I admire the author for continually finding new and interesting ways to engineering the mating bond. This is a pivotal book in which many truths are revealed and the story takes an interesting turn.

Sandy M’s review of Bound (Mastered Series, Book 1) by Lorelei James
Contemporary Erotic Romance published by NAL 4 Feb 14

When you find a favorite author who writes one of your favorite series, you know the day will come when that series has to end. The nearer that time gets, the more anxious you become – will you like the next round of books, even though you’ve loved every word this author has written so far? Doubts creep in; it’s human nature. However, when it comes to Lorelei James, I should have known better. Her McKay/West family series has only one more book before the final curtain, so I’m sure there are plenty of her fans out there who may have the same doubts. Let me assure you – douse all doubts and get ready to fall in love with this series and characters who will totally consume you just as all of those McKays did.

REVIEW: Hard As It Gets by Laura Kaye

Book CoverStevie‘s review of Hard As It Gets (Hard Ink, Book 1) by Laura Kaye
Contemporary Military Romance published by Avon 26 Nov 13

The blurb on this one’s a little misleading, since the hero is one of the survivors of a botched mission which led to his and his comrades’ disgrace and dismissal, while their commander – the heroine’s father – was posthumously declared a hero in spite of the survivors’ belief that he deliberately led them into a trap. So the decision to help the heroine is made out of loyalty to the team and a desire to potentially clear their names, rather than any redirected loyalty to the commander’s family. Having said that, the hero is attracted to the heroine from the start – against his better judgement – and I do rather like plot arcs in which characters attempt to redress wrongs done against themselves and others in order to achieve redemption in the eyes of authority. But…

REVIEW: Stolen by Shiloh Walker

Sandy M’s review of Stolen by Shiloh Walker
Romantic Suspense published by Ballantine Books 30 Oct 13

I’ve been chomping at the bit to get to this book by Shiloh Walker. I resisted only because I had decided to read a number of Christmas book to review for the holiday season. This is one of the very first books I opened once that was done. And though it’s now a few months old, doesn’t matter, because Ms. Walker never, ever disappoints. She’s done it again with another romantic suspense that never lets up and keeps you guessing for a while.
