…what I just got in the mail?
I really didn’t expect to get one this soon. And, since I haven’t heard back yet from my contact at Penguin (it sort of helps if I would, you know, send the email… oops) it is possible this will be the only copy I get early. So! Want am I gonna do? Besides hide from Gwen who is just borrowing my ARC (this is a final MM copy)… I am gonna use it for the prize for the only open contest (on this blog, no clue if you can win it elsewhere) to win Lover Unbound.
I need to check with JR Ward to see how early I can award it. I will update the contest post with the closing date for the contest as well as when the winner will be announced. And I will even send it first class. Oh and note we have a US holiday weekend going on, so I have no clue how quick JR will get back with me.
Please remember this is a final copy from the Penguin, it IS NOT signed. And the book is huge, the spine is a lil beat up from the mail but really to have it in your hot lil hands early… do you care?
I will announce at least one more contest for Lover Unbound signed copy – date again will depend on if I am ordering from Amazon or if it is sent early. We will have a contest on J.R. Ward’s Guest Author Day on September 26, 2007 – no clue as of yet what her prize will be. So if you don’t win, you will have another chance to get it a copy.
Good Luck!!!!!!
Well, it could be a SECRET contest where you mail it to the winner SECRETLY.
Interesting note: the bookseller for Lora Leigh’s Reader Appreciation Weekend (JRW will be there) tried to get the publisher to allow sales of LU to the 120 or so attendees and was told no because they were afraid we would all go online and post spoilers. Um, the book releases on 9/25, reviews have already been popping up, and RAW is from the 14th through the 16th. It’s not like we’d have a huge jump on everyone else!
I am seriously considering driving to your house and stealing the damn thing.
ah that sucks… well it is possible I will be told by them to wait until release week as well. Don’t know… but I like being on lists so I don’t go out of my way to get taken off them :). As long as they understand reviews come in all grades I go out of my way to help publishers because the ones I work with have been so amazingly great getting me the shit I need.
With the guest days it is different… I invite only authors with books I would rec. I do 2 to 4 “days” a month and I ask for a lot so it only seems fair I make them as welcome as possible. And really there are sooo many sites you can go to and do interviews or guest blog where you will get nothing but sunshine and light and omfg you rock with nothing else. There are places where they want nothing but rah rah rah, hell there are the ones that think it is ‘mean’ to women to not like a book and ::gasp:: tell them.
Authors come on knowing someone might say this didn’t work for me or ask a question that might make them think. They may see a previous book review with a bad grade, the next book could get a low grade or another reviewer on the site may later post a review not liking the same book I adored. I admire that in a person. And I am thankful, I really expected to have a dozen nos when I have only had one no and one cancel.
I am of two minds with spoilers. Really I think if someone WANTS to know something, they will find a way. And it isn’t any different than me reading the last chapter first. Yes, yes no don’t do it bad sybil whatever… if I wanna I will.
And I don’t like people telling me HOW to read. Not the author or publisher or whatever… so normally I don’t care much other than to note spoiler in the subject, so readers that hate spoilers don’t get burned.
Sadly at the same time when I see spoilers posted on books like this… I do cringe a little. ::shrug:: who knows. But maybe for the safety of the winner I shouldn’t post their name until after the 25th *eg*.
Did they darken his goatee in the final version of the cover? 😀
uh… don’t know.. I mean I can see it. But I am at home now and my monitor is fucked colorwise so I can’t make it out at all above. I haven’t really fondled the book or anything but didn’t notice the goatee until just now when I looked.
Now of course it is all I see. Doesn’t look dark enough on the chin. I bet people who didn’t know he had one would notice it at first if at all.
Maybe…
LOL I hate goatee’s so really I sort of tune out he has one *g*
Hee. It just looks like peach fuzz on the picture. “Peach fuzz” and “Vishous” don’t really go together in my head.
Ah, well. I can use my Sharpie, and draw in a devil goatee.
HelenKay:
Cool. Roadtrip. I call shotgun! (man I hope that’s not a regional colloquialism)
Sybil:
I really hate to see books spoiled. However, I think teasers are a lot of fun and require much more skill to write (shameless Sybil flattery in an attempt to get LU teasers).
as one of the attendees of raw I was seriously bummed not to be able to have the book then. But i will look at the stores for it. Cause sometimes they do release them early. I am so looking foreward to this book.
I will give you my unborn child for this book.
PS- my second unborn child goes when Rehv’s book comes out.
PamK:
Supposedly, we’re getting a totebag filled with free books from publishers. I don’t think anyone expected to get LU FREE, but it would have been freakin’ awesome to have it available to purchase since J.R. will be there to sign them.
But, then again, having all of us sit down and read it instead of partying would have been a little… odd.
Lucky, lucy you. To get this advance copy.So what have the reviewers been saying about this book…? Is it another keeper?
I’m curious about the book too – is the heroine just Butch in drag? Isn’t that what readers want to see anyhow? *g*
I seriously cannot wait for this book. Reading JR Ward is like waiting for the world’s best crack fix. That you can only have every six months.
(Oh, the agony)
Jill Myles:
Thank you for that Jill! I badly needed the laugh today :).
But I must say, as much as I love Butch and V, Butch in drag is a truly frightening thought!
I too, will offer my first born in trade for this book.
I’m not sure if I ever intend to HAVE a first-born, but if I did, said hypothetical being would be feeling awful nervous about now. 😉
I read the review on Amazon…is it just me or did that constitute something of a spoiler? Grr…want…book…now! Gimme more cowbell, dammit! What is Ward putting in the water? These books are so addictive.
Oh and Jill, that was way too funny. *g* My mental image of Butch has always been Chris Meloni from SVU, so dressing that image in drag definitely gave me a good laugh. 🙂
